On a 2000 900?

One of the little screws that holds the tach face on has rattled loose and is just sitting on the bottom of the gauge. :(

How do I get the tach apart? It looks easy enough to get the gauge out, but how do I get the glass face off?

crap! the exact same thing just happened to my 2000 m900 today as well. upon inspecting the spare parts catalog at ducati.com, i believe we are S.O.L., we can either deal with the annoying screw bouncing around or buy a new tach. anybody know of any aftermarket tachometers for the monster? i really dont want to spend my $ on another ducati tach if it is going to fall apart.

Dealers, Palo Alto Speedometer, North Hollywood Speedo, and other speedo shops all say it is a sealed unit that can't be repaired - must be replaced.

I'm looking for a used one that has a screw backed out, or the needle fallen off, etc. to experiment on.

This is a problem that seems to affect a lot of our bikes. I'd like to develop a solution to fix this! I just don't want to risk destroying my tach and being left with nothing - I need a spare one to experiment on.

I've done a good amount of work on automotive gauges over the years and have some ideas of how I might be able to fix these. If I can get it to work, I can fix them for others who have this problem, or figure it out and explain it.

Let me know if anyone has one to sell. Pretty much any condition is ok, as long as its all in one piece.

spareshack sells different faces for the speedo/tach units. mabe Stewart can help. there must be someone who can do it. the bezels need to be destroyed. new bezels would somehow need to be purchased and crimped on in a weatherproof fashion i guess.

I'm beginning to think this is a common flaw on the 2000 bikes - the P.O. of my bike had this very problem fixed under warranty, at about the 600 mile service. And now my tach seems to be loose and flopping around in the case.
