My OEM S4 service manual says:

Remove rear wheel.
Remove vert cyl exhaust pipe.
Remove lower bolt of shock linkage.
Loosen the pinch bolts.
Remove at least one of the circlips.
Using a drift, drive the pivot shaft out.

Don't lose your shims....

thanks Speeddog!

i need to find a good drift. anybody have some good recommendations? i tried a socket extension and tapped it with a hammer... no luck.

thanks again.

when i removed mine, i found i had to not only loosen the pinch bolts, but actually drive out the threaded inserts. i wailed on it with a hammer for a minute prior to pulling out the inserts. no movement. when i pulled the inserts out, it slid out by hand.

how in the world do you get the inserts out! should i tap from the bottom?

what a pain this is becoming!!
