Lotsa you guys have been talking about wanting to go ride Angeles Crest Highway, so, any takers?

As a bonus offer, if you can stick around the area until evening, I know where the finest pizza on earth is served. I'll post again after I find out what time they open.

---------EDIT-----------
Corrected the dates in the Subject to the actual weekend....somehow was baffled by my calendar ???

Re: How about ACH on 9/12 or 9/13?

Sounds cool, I've heard many good things about ACH - What time were you thinking on Fri? on Sat?

*Crossing my fingers for more newbie canyon carvers to come along so Nick doesn't have to wait too long at the end*

I just corrected the dates...

Time is still negotiable on Saturday or Sunday, I'm pretty flexible.

I'd prefer Saturday, so we can do pizza. Gotta be at the door by 4:00 pm or we'll starve to death waiting for a table.

You read my mind Speed...I was planning to ride ACH this weekend, now I got you to set the pace that I get to keep up with......hopefully.

Sat. sounds good for me. Pizza sounds better. Set the time and place and I'll be there.

Are we doing a up and back on ACH or somekind of loop to get back to the 210?

Sorry I missed the Diner Ride on Sunday, sounds like it was a blast. My only consolation is avoiding the "payback" I would have suffered on Monday trying to stay conscious at work...

An ACH route, you ask? Let me peruse my Streets & Trips and see what's reasonable. I'll try to fabricate a loop.

Eric, we can just meet at Pro Italia on Sat. if you want to pick up some boots. It's close to ACH and they carry really nice Sidi's there. Thats where I got mine. Plus all the Italian eye candy that is always there is nice. [smiley=waytogo.gif] [smiley=waytogo.gif]

BE - Sorry, pizza place is indeed closed on Sunday...owners are genuine Italian immigrants, so I'm guessing there's some reason behind no working on Sunday.

ProItalia as a meeting-up spot? Sounds good to me....

Here's my proposed plan:
Exit ProItalia, head up Angeles Crest Highway in a roughly NE direction. Ride to Big Pines. Head WNW on Big Pines Highway / Fort Tejon Road. Skirt the south side of Palmdale on Mount Emma Road, join the Angeles Forest Highway, returning SSW to ProItalia. According to my MS Streets&Trips, it's about a 120 mile loop. It goes by Newcomb's Ranch.

Visit here to get a little more info:

Pashnit is pretty strident about the CHP presence, so we should probably try to ride on the mellow side.

Say meet at ProItalia Saturday 9'ish, kick tires, annoy the sales guys, and laugh at how fugly the MultiStroodel is for an hour or so while Eric gets his booties. Do the loop with stops at Newcomb's, Big Pines, something in Littlerock or Palmdale, then back to ProItalia, then off to the pizza place for the wrapup.

Let me know what y'all think.........

Sounds fun, but what is the estimated duration of the ride?

(I can possibly commit to an all day ride but have to take into account workload considerations... oh and the USC game is that day too)

Maybe back to ProItalia at about 3:00 PM?

I haven't done the loop, so I can't say exactly....

Hey, you can tape the game, right? You can't tape the ride... ;D

Sooo true and wise, Speed.

OK, all that aside - I'm a probable for Sat. at 9a -- it would be nice to ride and break my baby's 600 mi. mark, but at the same time, it really depends on how well I can focus after Friday night plans.

[I have to be more social now as I am newly single (as of 2 days!) :'(]

Have fun Friday night, hope you can join us on Saturday.

You know what I've found, maybe it'll agree with your experiences; If you're looking, you won't find it. It's when you're not looking, that you'll find it.

Nick, what time did we meet Will last Saturday? That was 3 blocks from his house... and he was still late. Any "more social" this Friday and he wouldn't be able to make it if we met in his kitchen. ;D

I got to check what time my committment is on Saturday. Didn't know you were getting together so early. I might be able to make it. Or at least part of it.

;D

Hope you can make it, at least for part of the ride. Wish it was a shorter loop, to give the option of two laps, but that's geography.

My condolences on your battery fiasco. That really sucks.

Is Newcombs the first stop? If so, that is probably what I will do with you guys, ride to Newcombs, eat? then head out.

I have a friend (996) who would like to join as well, if that is cool.

Also, Eric and WIll, let's meet somewhere and ride up to Pro Italia together.

ROCKIN!!! Well, except for 108 not being able to make the ride, and Bruce bailing early....but it's still a good thing.

Someone with a 996? Bring 'em on. Somebody's got to get the first ticket! ;D Just kidding about the ticket, I hope...

Let's meet at PI at 9:00 AM Saturday.

Everybody that's coming, please post so we know if we need to wait if you're late!

That's right, I was a "weatherneck" and darn proud of it. All of the aviators that support the "grunts" out in the field depend on quality weather information to accomplish the mission. I was glad to be of service. It was a b_tch always having to hang out in the rear in air conditioned vans. That 2 weeks having to "tent it" at Camp Wilson was rough too.

Anyway, as for Sat. I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to make it. If anything changes I'll show up at P.I., but don't wait for me. Have a good time and be safe up on the hill.

Invited a new lister for the ride, directed him to this thread.
We'll see if he posts.
