i actually used a hacksaw. way back when i hacked the tail, i didn't have any snazzy power tools at home (only at the "shop") so i grabbed whatever was handy and went at is. works fine, but i'm sure any appropriate power-tool would be easier.
Hack saw; and mine was missing the rear screw to hold the blade in, so lazy a$$ me wired it on and made the job twice as difficult. But thats me. Worked fine in the long run...
I chucked a metal blade in my super cool Bosch jig saw, came out clean as a whistle. I also made the brackets to mount the tail light, signals, and plate out of aluminum angle.
