I used a hand held angle grinder with a cutoff wheel attached to it.

Worked like a charm. Around 30 seconds per side and it's cut cleanly.

i actually used a hacksaw. way back when i hacked the tail, i didn't have any snazzy power tools at home (only at the "shop") so i grabbed whatever was handy and went at is. works fine, but i'm sure any appropriate power-tool would be easier.

Hack saw; and mine was missing the rear screw to hold the blade in, so lazy a$$ me wired it on and made the job twice as difficult. But thats me. Worked fine in the long run...

Scooby likes to do things the hard way. ;)

I chucked a metal blade in my super cool Bosch jig saw, came out clean as a whistle. I also made the brackets to mount the tail light, signals, and plate out of aluminum angle.

Later...

Hacksaw here too. Just be careful on your first couple of passes. Mine chattered on one side and left marks. Doh!

I used the hack saw as well, and it looks fine. You can use aluminum pieces to make your license plate holder and tail light.
