I just bought a slightly used 2003 620ie. (40 miles)
What (if any) mods are very neccessary for this bike and I should do asap?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Another vote for what MH said above....before I took delivery on my S4, I had all kinds of stuff listed that I wanted to do first. But I sat back and told myself I'd ride stock for a year and the priorities would change. They did.

However, I would suggest the following equipment in prioritized list:
1. Properly fitted quality helmet and spare(smoke & clear lenses).
2. Quality leathers (jacket & pants)
3. Quality gloves and boots.
4. Shop manual
5. Rear stand
6. Larger rear sprocket (Add two teeth and keep the stock chain)
7. Tank bag

That's the no-brainer kit to get started....now go out and ride lots.

thanks for all the info guys!
What about any little problems or annoyances that should be remedied or modded right away?
For instance, on my car, they are notorious for oil getting into the intercooler so everyone puts a catch can on the line right away to solve the problem.
Anything like that with these bikes?

My understanding with the 620's are that they are a great all rounder - so ride heaps and get really confident because before you know it you will have sold and upgraded to something more pwerfull - where does it all end ? ;)

Gotta get a kickstand by-pass, it's a must have.
Gotta get the rear end chopped. It's free if you do it your self. Go slow, don't hack it. The plate mount can come off with no problem, just get a metal plate or piece and drill holes to line up with the holes left from the plate holder. Mount the plate to the new plate/ piece.
Chop the plastic slowly until you remove the parts you do not like.
good luck!!
