170 will probably fit, 180 probably wont
tire width can vary with different models and brands
160 will perform best on the wheel you have

To use a 180 tire , you will need to get a 5.5" rim for the rear. This has been done by mrplease. I like the look of the larger rear. I am not sure how much it changes the flickability of the 696 though.

Stock size is 4.5" x 17" in the rear.

Larger rear tire for 696

Ducati offers a set of Performance rims for the 696 that are 5.5" wide, and will accomodate a 180 reaer tire. Moving from a 160 to a 180 will slow down your turn in a bit and may require a little more effort to get the bike into the corner. I track my 696 with the 160 and don't feel the need for a 180. However the look of a 180 is very appealing.

Unfotunately the rims are discontinued from Ducati. I was unaware since I have not tried to order any in a while. Sorry. Carrozzeria make some real nice ones as well.

That is interesting. It looks really nice with a wider tire in the rear. I wonder how it handles? I also wonder if it is safe?

a few new shots i got from another forum of someone with a 180 rear

Spoke to a couple of ducati reps

they said fitting a 180 rear onto the 4.5 rim is 100% safe
the only down side is that the 180 rear will slow me down going into a turn
or coming out of one

this is going to be my next mod , just trying to see which tire brand
