You can paint it neon pink with pretty bows if you want.. it is your bike. Personally I wouldn't got from dark to yeller - but it's not my money.

As far as cost - that depends a bit. If repairs are needed to the parts it will cost more. But to get the best answer, you might drop a PM on one of the painters on here like DucPainter or Landshark. They would be able to give you a better estimate of costs.
Sorry! I think i have to rephrase.

Does it cost more to paint a monster dark than a regular clear color? I was under the impression that the dark needs more coating before it could be painted. Compared to a regular paint where surface has been coated with "clear" already.
Doubtful. A painter's going to sand into that clear coat anyways to ensure better mechanical adhesion of the new paint. Or even strip off the old paint to the metal (or plastic).
Some of the cost depends on the color, red and Yellow are more expensive paint colors. As far as painting them at least for me it would cost the same. I still have to do a base coat clear coat on both types. Even the dark had a mate clear coat. I am not sure about Ducati's and if they have a clear on there darks but I do know on other bikes I have painted, that's how I did it and got that look. I hope that answered your question ;)

Larry's right on the money, mostly. I could tell you why Ducati charges less for darks, but you'd probably hate me.

Ducati does not clear coat darks. It is a SS paint system. They use very little of it too. The best way to approximate the look is to use a base clear system.
Thanks a Bunch for your input!
