I was talking to my GF last night and she brought up an interesting point. Now this is just for discussion and not how I feel.

She was wondering if people with the 9** have a snob factor toward us "monster" riders. How about the supersports.

Do you think the monsters are the 328's or Boxters of the Ducati lineup?

I personally think they are bad ass bikes, and I wouldn't hesitate to have anyone on any other bike come ride along with me or a group of monsters. But perhaps it isn't the same if you have a 999 or something.

Opinions?

No WAY. A duc is a duc is a duc... I rode hyperpsort and now I am choosing a monster. Just as long as it is a Ducati. Thats all that matters. If they do give you a snob look or remark, then they are not and I repeat NOT AUTHENTIC DUCATISTAS.

I get that feeling to, but the 620's are cool.

they all "look" almost the same.....and most MOnsters of anytype probably couldn't smoke my previous bike, a 95' zx-6r...so.....i say they are all bad ass..get whatever you can afford. I'm glad they make a bike that people can get into ya know?

I see lots of people buying new 620's so it's obviously a good move for Ducati. I also see LOTS of Boxters :-D

I have a 620. I'm cool with it. I'm cool without it! If you want to be snob just because you've got a bigger bike, then F U! ;D When I get my 749 Dark next year, I will ride with anyone who has a Duc or any other bike for that matter!

Seems to me like the 996 etc. are completely different bikes than Monsters.

So, it's not really like a Boxster. The Boxster is really just a lower priced Carrera - I'd say most Boxster owners would rather have a Carrera Cab if given the choice, but the Carrera costs significantly more. They are functionally essentially the same cars (look similar, etc.). The Carrera is just a more "deluxe" version.

But the Monster is just a plain different beast than a SuperSport type bike. Different buyers in different markets.

I wouldn't want a 996 if someone gave one to me. Seriously. I'd take it, but I'd sell it. 20 years of fully faired, uncomfortable supersport type bikes - BTDT, don't want/need/like it anymore.

I'm surprised by how many Duc ownes can't tell a 620 when they see it - even when it has the 620 stickers on it. Rode next to three different Duc monsters and all asked me if I had a 900. I had to point out the 620 markings.

I'm also amazed at how many non-Duc riders admirer the thing even when they know it is a 620. There was a new CRR stolen from where I park. A guy on an SV warned me that my bike would be next since it was the nicest bike left (not by a long shot - an Aprilia Mille, several BMWs and Harleys all park there as well). He was shocked when I told him I have the cheapest bike left (from an MSRP standpoint) and that I was sure my 620 would go untouched. He seemed shocked to learn I paid much less than what he bought his SV650 for. A Ninja rider indicated he drools over my Duc each day - I offered to swap him - but to no avail.

On two other occasions, tourists waited to see the Duc fire up and leave. They were convinced it had to be the fastest thing on the street - not by a mile.

My take is people who know how to ride the 9** (and track it) appreciate cycles and appreciate the Monster for what it is. People who bought a fashion accessory, treat it as such and may not care for an alternate design no matter how stylish.

i met a monster snob in SF on a a red M900 probably a 2001/2, who parks his bike pretty close to mine on occasion. when i asked him about his bike he kind of blew me off and he asked me "is that a 750", referring to my bike. i said "yes" and he blew me off like he was he was the sh!t. what a punk. i later saw him ride off in his penny loafers, what a putz! :p

I think it is more of a general attitude of the "race replica" crowd. In general they think they are the badest fastest riders out there because they have the fastest bikes. Truth be known: many are posers who can't ride for sh!t. A good rider on a 620 could leave them in the dust in the twisties.

im with PNWduc... learn to ride and lean ur bike like mad... that way if they talk junk, tell them to go ride some twisties with u and leave them in the dust since they only know how to ride fast in a straight line. :)

I always get props from the 99* crowd at local handout. I was there just yesterday and everyone was looking at my shorty pipes:) I think I'm going to get a evem shorter set.

jrfuisz hit the nail on the head, could not have said it better myself.

I do find it odd that everyone always asks, is that a 900 (I have a 750)? I usually tell them it is a 748cc monster (which a 750 is), this usually confuses them a bit (due to the 748cc superbike). Shuts the squids up.

Dunno about the Monster in general, but I do get a sense that people look down on the 620 a bit.

I'm lucky enough to have a 01 996 and a 96 m900. I love them both, I first had a 900FE and just lusted after the 996, sold the FE and bought the 996. A year later bought the Monster (I have always loved the bike and loved the induvidual character of each one). IMO a duc owner is a duc owner, there is no room for snobs. Have fun and ride ;D ;D ;D

Naked is Beautiful! I love my Monster. There isn't a sexier bike on the road no matter what the cost. 620, 750, 900, S4 they are all awesome bikes & they're plenty fast. My 750 will our drag just about every cage out there. Any faster than that isn't necessary IMO. They reason that we all love our Monstsers is beacuse they are fun to ride & beautiful to look @! What else needs to be said?

When I was in the showroom waiting on the paperwork so I could take my new (well, slightly used, but new for me) 620 home I was standing there looking at it and a guy walked up and we started talking. Turned out he was picking his (beautiful) 996 up. His comments to me were "the 620 is a great bike, you will love it". Not a trace of snobbery to him.

I like it when someone asks if my bike is a 750 or a 900, and I just casually say "1000".

Hey, I ride with a guy on a 2002 750ie, who just shreds me in the twisties! Funny thing, though, he doesn't like to drag race with me!
