Hi everyone. I'm new to the post and I'm picking up my Ducati Monster Diesel next weekend. I'm trying to find out how many where made/sold? Apparently only 7 or so came to South Africa. Mine is Number 539...I think I saw somewhere someone in the US has number 530....any ideas?

I'm sure they did build quite a few, but what's many by sales standards?
I'm not sure...is say 1000 bikes worldwide a lot?
Just out of curiosity, what did you put on your tag "...especially for you...number 732"?
I bought mine (and picking it up this next weekend) with 3000km and the original guy left the plaque blank....apparently I can get it specially done for me from Ducati...so says the dealer.
Any mods on yours?

If the original is blank, I bet they would. I mean really how much could it really cost for good customer relations?

From what I heard .. the way Ducati did the Diesel emblem was in batches. They would wait until they got a bunch of sales in from Dealers worldwide. Once they had a sufficient number they would call each owner and ask what they wanted engraved (from italy in very bad broken English :) ) Once they had all of the info for the batch .. they would send the order out to a 3rd party supplier to make the badges. They were not made in house. FYI .. my badge shipped via AIR MAIL straight from Italy .... just like everyone else's I'm sure.

If its truly blank .. I would just find a local laser engraver to do it ....

The Ducati dealer I'm getting it from told me I could get it done from Ducati directly. He said that the reason the first owner didn't get it done was specifically for re-sale reasons. He thought no one would be keen to buy a bike with someone else's name by the limited edition number (which makes it sound as if every Number with a name/saying is on some data base, which I highly doubt). I've asked Ducati head office in Italy about the Numbers on the Diesel editions and I'm waiting to hear from them. Thankfully, I speak Italian so I'll translate any broken English reply :)

By the way, so far the highest number I've seen is yours Dan. Someone told me they have seen others in the 700's but nothing higher.....would be pretty cool if 732 was the last one!

The entire Diesel badge thing is kind of Hokey .... There is a guy on another forum that bought one around same time as me. He got the call around same time as me and he received badge 733. So the Badge number has absolutely nothing to do with the build order ... it is the sales order .. so basically mine was number 732 sold .. NOT the 732 built. For all I know mine was number 1 built ... or number 50 ... or number 500 ... who knows.

Here it is ...

After that pic was taken I swapped to StreetFighter reservoirs and ditched the pee cups.

They are units sold and not units built. The guys at Ducati confirmed that...and they are kind of 'hokey'...still, anything sold in limited numbers is pretty cool in a way.

Very cool!
Let's see: Carbon pipes (I like the fact there is no different colour badge on them), Mirror and Levers that I can see...

Yes .. I have the 1100EVO Termi kit installed ... exhaust + intake + ECM. I removed the Termi stickers .. don't like them. Shorty Levers, ditched the mirrors for a single bar end, custom exhaust hanger, no stickers or reflectors .. also removed the USA Charcoal Canister.

Not sure if I posted this pic yet. Here she is on the floor.
Carbon Radiator cover, Tail Tidy, Small indicators. Need to do the Levers and Mirrors....just coughed up a lot so far ;D so it will have to wait till May. Have to admit, I won't change much else. I love the look of the original pipes so I won't do anything there.

Also got this to match the bike...thought it went well together:

Wow so now you have a plain old M1100 EVO in a flat paint scheme with yellow calipers huh?

I'm just trying to figure out why you'd buy an LE bike to make so many changes.

Not trying to ride you for it, I'm just kind of lost as to why you would choose to make so many changes rather than just customize a stock platform?

Basically all I did was replace the mufflers. Everything else is diesel specific. The green body, the seat, yellow calipers. Thats why I bought it. Not for the muffler.

Am I the only person that thought this bike ran on actual diesel fuel? lol to be honest that was my initial appeal when I first saw this bike. I had to ask my wife about Diesel the company, apparently she knew who they were.
