Ok, the K&N site lists 2 filters for the m750: DU-0900 and DU-9098

Now I don't usually second guess application guides, but I noticed something strange for the m750: They used one filter until 1997, went to a new filter model for 97-98, then went back to the original filter for 1999+.

The DU-0900, according to their site is used for:

At first glance everything looks good, 9098 for the newer ducs, 0900 fir the older. But look at the 9098 listed for a 1996 monster 750, 0900 for 1997-1998 monster 750, then back to 9098 for the 1999+ m750.

Did ducati really go from one filter, change for 2 years, then go back??

Re: DIfference between K&N Filter DU-0900 and

just to confuse you a bit more,
i ran a du-9001 on my s4 before switching to pod filters. bought it from http://ducatigarage.netfirms.com but they unfortunately no longer carry k&n's for ducati's.

since we are talking K&N's -- what is your take on the twin pods versus the modded airbox with a panel filter replacement?

Re: DIfference between K&N Filter DU-0900 and

my s4 ran really well with the open lid + panel filter. the only reason i'm running pods is because i sent my stock box to a carbon fiber parts manufacturor with hopes of getting a carbon one made. the stock box had to be destroyed to create a mold for the CF counterpart. this was a risk i was aware of and unfortunately, a CF counterpart was never successfully made.
so i went with pods. the work very well but i haven't had them on for very many miles. if you dig the look and want to shed some weight, go for it. but i think the stock box does a very good job (with the lid cut) of airflow and air control for the intake.
for what it's worth, when i stuff the 998 motor in, i'll be switching back to an airbox setup. partially because i think it will work better (will be going with a "ram air" setup as on the SBK's) and partially cuz i don't think i could apply pods to the "shower" type injector setup that the 998 uses.

i think most people will tell you that it probably doesn't help performance all that much compared to the modded airbox (it may even decrease performance slightly)....i think it looks a whole lot nicer though, gets rid of some more "useless" plastic, and gives me some more room to put more important stuff (i.e. power commander) ;D

Re: DIfference between K&N Filter DU-0900 and

there were two different airboxes used. One the filter is square the other the filter is rectangle in shape. The du-9098 is the rectangle one.

Great, thanks for the info. It just seemed really odd that ducati would go from rectangular to square to rectangular (or the other way around).

Any recommendations on places that offer good pricing on the KN's?

aside from your local dealer, chris sells 'em at www.ca-cycleworks.com. not sure if he's got the one you're looking for.
also check out motowheels.com. they sell pipercross filters which are also excellent. may have one to suit your bike.

9098 is almost identical to 0900. I've got both and sell them. The new style ones for 03 and 04 Ducatis is different. I think I've got like 2 in stock for those. They're a bit more scarce.

Re: DIfference between K&N Filter DU-0900 and

even more strange, look at the 2000 m900 -- all the 900's except for the chromo use one filter, the chromo uses a different model???

I remember seeing a thread someone posted asking what the airbox mod was, and two people posted pics, but one had the folds on the filter horizontal and the other had it vertical, perhaps this is the only difference?

Re: DIfference between K&N Filter DU-0900 and

Chris informed me that the 9098 has a rubberized bar in the middle but in all other aspects is identical tot he 0900 filter.

Thanks all.
