Anyone here ever tried taking Route 1 all the way between DC and Philly. I have to make a trip up there and would rather stay away from the I-95 mess. Is it scenic, twisty, wide open? I'm thinking it should be about a 6 hour haul.

Any suggestion on a better route would be helpful also. Thanks.

Sounds like a great ride. Sorry, I don't have any info to help you. Let us know how it goes.

I have rode parts of route 1 in Maryland. Much of it is boring with traffic lights and very straight. North of Baltimore, it does get better, not twisty but at least it is scenic with rolling hills and some woods.

Other suggestions, take 97 north (Georgia Ave in DC) to Littlestown, PA and then go east on various roads to Philadelphia, not as direct and probably quite a bit longer, but the roads are way better and scenic. Route 97 is very nice after Olney, MD all the way to Littlestown. The only congested area would be Westminster, MD.

Another possibility would be to cross the Bay Bridge and go north through Delaware, lots of farm land and scenic.

Good Luck.
