hey guys,
got some custom triples in from alex ortner to mount 999 forks to my monster s4. great stuff! waiting on a bearing seal to mount to the bike, but here's some shots of the bits. i'm posting just two pics to allow for easy loads. linking to the rest for those with a decent connection:

Re: custom triples from alex ortner -> SBK fork

Without being a jerk and asking for specifics, what "price range" might something like that be in?

I debated for a little while of having Alex do a custom top triple vs the Cycle Cat S4 adapters and I think it was in my financial favor to stick with the adapters.

I cannot wait to see that front end mounted on your bike! Looks like a fun project.

Re: custom triples from alex ortner -> SBK fork

alex made the top for the same price as the cyclecat units which was very reasonable i think.
the bottom was more, and required quite a bit of tricky machining to get the rounded bottom. but i think well worth the cost. i'll leave it to alex to disclose the cost if he cares to. i'd rather not because the price of these units can vary quite a bit based on how ornate you want them to be.
but that said, i also can't wait to see them on my bike

Don't expect that bottom triple to save any weight. It is at least 3 or 4 times as strong as the stock one and you pay for that with some weight. But most people like the way they look and they do attract a lot of attention.

Re: custom triples from alex ortner -> SBK fork

i expect the top to be a bit lighter than the stock cast unit but the bottom, i fully expect to be heavier. sometimes packing on weight's worth the other benefit. in this case as you point out alex, the bottom's definately much stronger than the stock bit.
just as with the c'cat frame sliders. plenty more heavy than the stock motor mount bolt, but the damage-control they offer makes the extra ounces well worth it.

Wow, those are amazing. Alex is making me an upper triple for a set of sbk forks, but after seeing this, I may ask for the lower one as well.

Re: custom triples from alex ortner -> SBK fork

What is Ortner's turn around time on a custom set of upper and lower triples, considering the time of year?

And is this the kind of guy you can just call and ask him to custom make something for you or..........do you have to be a friend or friend of a friend or ........well, you get my drift?

I've seen his work on other bikes and in pictures but have never asked anyone.

I have a new set of Ohlins forks for my bike. I've got a Cycle Cat top triple but the lower is stock and butt-ugly. I bought a beautiful Rizoma upper and lower triple unit. It will fit just fine but the upper has four holes for the stock handlebars and I have Cycle Cat clip-ons. I'm going to have to have someone do something creative (machine-wise) to get rid of those four holes. If you have clip-ons, the holes are an eye-sore.

It's a little late now to send back the Rizoma and have him make me an upper and lower triple so I suppose any suggestions on what I've bought would be appreciated.

Thanks.

just drop him a line with some questions. try to be specific about your application and what you have in mind. no secret society b-s here. he's a good guy to deal with.

oh man, beautiful stuff. that lower triple looks so solid.

i ordered the dtc-6 with the shims for the stock lower triple, but that work of art makes me jealous...

You lucky dog... I couldn't convince Alex to do a lower triple for me... he's too busy apparently. So now I'll have to dump the DTC-6 and look for a matching set, it doesn't look so good with the stock lower triple. So what was starting to look like a Cycle Cat project bike will take a different direction....

Yeah, I know... but I've been waiting a while already, and it doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon, if at all. Thanks for the link, those look pretty good... I'll see if he can crank me out a set.

that's too bad! i'd like to say alex's work is worth waiting for, but given i've already got MY triples, it's easy for me to say ;D

No doubt about it that they are worth waiting for, but I think he's very busy... and probably not too concerned about some doofus who just wants a lower triple... i'm sure he has much more interesting projects to work on.
