I am planning on doing my first trackday soon and need to find a suitable set of leathers. I don't want to spend a bundle because I don't plan on doing too many trackdays.

Anybody have a suggestion on a good set of leathers on the lower end of the price scale? I am looking for something a little low key so I can also use them for street use as well. Good protection is key so if I need to step up in price to be safe I'm all for it. But if there is a low end set you can think of I'd appreciate any feedback.

When I was looking for leathers in November, there were several good choices in the $500-600 range, new. If I hadn't found something better, I would have purchased a new two-piece Alpinestar set from Road Rider in San Jose for $599. However, I found a used two-piece on the consignment rack at Helimot for $750 that I liked much better, which I bought.

Having experienced first hand what can happen when sliding down the road even covered in textile riding gear, I refuse to ride long distances any more without being fully covered in leather. You should consider leather even off of the track as well.

They have a couple of Joe Rocket Suits for about $540.

I opted for the Alpinestars GPU suit at $610.

They also have several used Vanson jackets that could be matched up to some pants.

I stand behind Alpinestars 100%. I got my TZ1 jacket for under $400. I cannot even begin to tell you how much roadrash it prevented when I had my crash back in June. I have since purchased a pair of Alpinestars "Twin" leather pants and I am absolutely in love! Though they don't have the zipper to attach the jacket, the fit is very secure and form fitting. They're cut like jeans so they're super comfy. I'm not one for advertising with logos and what not but like I said, I have nothing but support for Alpinestars.
