So, I've been thinking..... It sure would be useful to have a centerstand on my M800. DP has one in their performance catalog, and if I recall correctly, I remember seeing one on ebay for ~ $70.

Anybody have one? I mean.... it would make good sense for lubing/adjusting chain, changing sprockets, detailing, cleaning rims, installing exhaust, miscelenious maintanence, etc, etc.....

What do you guys think?
Also, my bike seems to whobble a bit more than I'd like while on the side-stand. Call me paranoid, but has anyone else noticed that on thier bikes? What are your thoughts?

My 900 had a DP centerstand on it when I bought it used with 2200 mi on the clock.

I found it very useful for all the tasks you mention. Also, it was relatively unobtrusive looking. I never scraped it turning, but I just don't lean as hard to the left as I do to the right. Still, I'm getting more aggressive and expect it to hit soon.

I'm now at 13,000 mi and the damned thing is locked up.... rust!

I have to remove it to clean it and repaint. I had to buy a rear paddock stand to remove it. Now that I have a rear paddock stand, why the hell do I need a center stand?

It won't go back on.

Kind of a heavy hunk of useless metal, once your have a rear stand in the garage. I never felt I needed one.

I also have on the way. The way the side stand flexes scares the crap out of me every time I use it.

I intend to saw off the lever used by your foot to activate the stand which should eliminate eny ground clearance issues.

I'm not sure about the DP centerstand for the Monster but on my Jap bikes the lever(tang) is used to help lift the bike onto the stand. There is no way I'd ever get a CB up on the centerstand without that lever(tang). I suggest you install it before cutting anything off just to see how it goes up on the stand. Just my .02.

If you do a lot of touring or weekend rides, it might make sense. Otherwise I would get the rear stand for the garage.

I don't think the monster side stand is bad. You should see my Laverda! If you breath on it, it wants to roll forward off the stand.

It seems the newer bikes have increasingly cheesy sidestands. The welded Aluminum stand on my '99 is rock solid.

If there's really a reason to upgrade new Monster stands, lemme know. I know some guys just itching for new product ideas.

Hey Don, the side stand on my '02 is a bouncy piece of cheese. If there was a sturdier replacement available, I wouldn't be getting a center stand. The stocker may in reality be OK, but my perception of it causes me not to trust it.$.02
