A friend brought this up whilst watching yesterday's race. How is it that Camel can have their name on their riders leathers and on the bikes but Marlboro cannot?
umm, they can. It's a regional regulation about tobacco advertising.
that's why sometimes they do: (tokyo)
and sometimes they don't: (us)
(iirc, US/Some EU/MidEast don't allow it, while asia does. however, EU is also uniformly banning it and is the reason that camel isn't the yama sponsor next year)
I think that kind of sucks. Smoke if you wanna smoke, chew if you wanna chew.... Just like American rodeo.. smokeless tobacco is banned in most arena's.... it's just silly.
