Anybody else try this setup for your helmet? It works great for me and thought I'd share it with you. A lot of friends haven't even heard about it and I haven't read anything here. here's some pics. It was only 125.00 from my Duc Dealer (I beat him up on the price). It's blueTooth works great for my Nextel.

It comes w/ a foam cover for the mic in two sizes. I'm guessing the bigger one is for the open face helmets. Sometimes the other person is surprised when they ask "where are you, whatcha doing?" and my response is "I'm riding my bike" . they can't tell unless I'm on the freeway and then they hear some wind noises....Harry

What kind of lid do you have? I'm wondering if it would fit in my X-11 but it's got very shallow ear pockets. Does the ear piece attach to the inside with velcro? Also, is there a possibility of getting one with dual speakers so I could hook up a bluetooth transmitter to my mp3 player and listen to tunes on it too?

I had a Shoe and now a have an HJC. both had pockets inside near the ear. the speaker (1) is flat and I just slid it under the liner and put it right in the pocket(it does have velcro on it). It took a couple of on/off tests to get it in the perfect spot. I would have to check the manual later (if I can find it) and see if you can use an mp3 player through it.

Hey Mich, what model Shoei did you have? My X-11 doesn't have pockets inside near the ear... The ear is just a slight indent into the hard foam.

Yeah, I've got an X-11 also and ordered some speakers from HelmetAudio, but even they were too large and pressed against my ears.

Is there any chance you could measure the depth of the ear speaker and post it? I'd hate to shell out for one just to find I couldn't use it or would have to buy a new helmet.

Also, how long does the charge last? And do you ever take it off the helmet for sport riding, or is it pretty much a permanent install?

Yeah, I emailed the guys at helmet audio and they said their speakers run around 5/16 or 1/2" thick depending on which one you're looking at. I found another site that says they've got stuff around 8mm thick but that's the same as 5/16 so that's no good either... I love the X-11 but it just ain't good for helmet speakers... :(

I'm out of town at the moment, but when I get back I'll take it out and measure the speaker. As for the charge, it has lasted a few 5-6 hour rides without a charge. the unit just slides off the mount if you don't want to use it. it does not leave any permanent marks and you could move it from helmet to helmet. When I don't use the bluetooth (sometimes just don't want to be bothered on a ride), I just don't turn it on and you can't tell it's there.

Alright.....I've had a lot of PM's concerning the size of speaker, length of battery time, how it comes off etc. I took it for the team and removed my speaker from my helmet and took some pics.(it takes several putting on/off of the helmet to get the speaker in an optimum spot and I only have one arm to use..the exact reason for this bluetooth for me) now that I'm done crying :'(. On to the pictures....one of the pics is the speaker width- approx 4mm, 4.5 with the Velcro. another pic of installed Mic inside helmet, another pic of outside installed, another with the unit removed. The unit comes with the small Allen wrench to tighten the clamp onto helmet. Only drawback for me is the unit only goes on the left hand side of helmet (picture on box shows it on the right). I'm right handed and have to reach across to the left and it's awkward for me , but I'm getting used to it. I usually don't make calls but am answering them more. You just set your phone for auto answer or you can tap the button on the unit to answer. They made the button pretty much the whole surface of the unit. They kept in mind that we have fat fingers with gloves on. Another question I need to answer- the box says talk time to be 7 hrs talk time and 1 week standby. Another question- weatherproof. AGC technology automatically adjusts volume according to noise and speed levels. VOX technology enables to receive or reject calls by voice control (I haven't used this feature yet). It does have volume up/down. I don't know what this exactly means, but bluetooth version 1.2 (it works with my phone). WOW, that is a write-up. I feel like a salesman ;D..anymore questions, PM me. will be glad to help. MM
