I am going to look at one tomorrow, it is used with 3500 miles on it. Supposedly, it has never been down and has a clean title. The bike looks stock as near as I can tell with the exception of a steering stabilizer.

Just wondering if there is anything in particular I should look for. Should I take it to my local Ducati dealer and have a mechanic check it over?

Yes! Save yourself some heartache and take it in for an inspection. I've seen a lot of guys get ripped off because they didn't know what to look for and were to excited to really pay attention.

I think it would probably be an hour or two @ $90. Depends on what you have them do. I'd have them:
1. check the compression
2. inspect oil
3. inspect bearings
4. look for previous damage/wear
5. inspect chain, tires, battery, belts, suspension, etc.
