I have had both and all i can say is that the suomy is the loudest helmet ive ever owned. The x-11 is a little loud but nowhere near the suomy. Anything with sidecovers is going to be loud.
Thanks. I actually just found out that exact thing today. I just got my Suomy today and took it out for a quick spin and though my neck loves the super light weight, my ears don't love the howl! On longer I rides I wear earplugs, looks like I'll be wearing them full time now!easye said:I have had both and all i can say is that the suomy is the loudest helmet ive ever owned. That's the Vandal, and it's available now. According to these guys http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/suomy-helmets/vandal/ it's even louder than the Spec1R.VicAus said:I have a Suomy and yes it is loud, but very comfortable.
Troy Bayliss obviously complained about the same thing and he got a new version (pretty sure he still wears ear plugs though and not because of wind noise!).
With any luck this new design will be passed on to us soon.
I think helmet noise is a lot more complex than just blaming it on side pods. I have 2 Arai, a Suomy, a Shark and a Shoei. The Shoei is the loudest by far.....much louder than any of the ones with side pods. If the rear vents on it are open....it's unbearable. On all of the helmets, the majority of the noise comes from the fit around the neck. Simply putting my finger up there can cut the noise in half.goldenchild said:Funny that the Suomy "Vandal" should be louder than the Spec1R since it doesn't have side covers for the face shield. Regardless, if my ride isn't a commute to work or around town than I always wear either ear plugs or my ipod anyway.
