It's a nice idea but I've had my share of Ducati superbike ownership for a long time. I still love them but it's not worth the cost for me. They are making the 848 for '07 and I'm curious to see what the retail is on that.

For those saying, "huh, what's an 848?" Ducati decided to replace the 749 with an 848cc. AMA has changed the displacement rules in FX for twins next year allowing up to 850cc displacement. Pegram will field the new 848 in FX.
Bumping the 749 up to 850, and shedding weight like the 1098, may finally make it competitive against the 600s...it's about time.
So anyway, if I were in the market for another Ducati superbike, I would look into the 848. But I have a feeling it won't be cheap enough.

Oops. just thought of something and don't want to give dis-information. The rules for the FX class and twins depends on technical specs. It's the desmo, water cooled, 4-valve twins that go to 850. Others like the Buell are allowed 1000. But not to worry, the Buells can barely finish a race! [laugh]

Fasterblkduc...so true that Buells never finish a race...I guess that will be as close as Harley (Buell) will come to "really" racing again...too bad. But on the other hand the V-rod did kick butt in drag racing this past year...so maybe there is hope an American manufacturer will make a "real" sport bike one day. ;D

Here's one that will kick some serious tail. It's been in development for a while. The only problem is that the price tag will be too high for us mortals. http://www.motoczysz.com/main.php?area=home They showed it at Laguna motogp the last two years. The motor has a really cool design. It is a four cylinder with the crankshaft of two cylinders spinning the opposite direction of the other two cylinders. It is designed to cancel the gyroscopic effect of all that rotating mass. The owner of the design and company doesn't seem too serious about it however. I've been on their mailing list for a long time and nothing is happening. He seems to be more interested in showing off his shop and just talking about how cool the bike is. Oh well, I wish I had that kind of time and money to waste on toys like that.

Here's another one. Fischer...They have been taking orders already on this bike and it's supposed to be a great bike for the $. It is built around the sv650 motor. And yes, it does look alot like the 675 Triumph but, it was styled before the 675. http://www.fischer1.com/

So, there are a couple American made sportbikes that are alot better than the Buell. There is actually another four cylinder in development, but I'm drawing a blank on the details right now. I'll have to think about it.

But if you do finally get it on the track this season, it would be a nice race paint scheme! However, I hope that you realize that pretty paint like that on a racebike is a magnet for the tarmac.
