Looking to do the muffler shorten routine on a set of 620 low mount mufflers. Done the DML search and like the idea of cutting them off and then remove the end cap and reinstall. Leading to my question: looking in the inlet side I see what appears to be a honeycomb type of material which leads me to believe this is a catalytic converter. I have not seen any mention of removing, modifying or doing anything to it.
Question: Has anyone done anything with this material during the shorten process?
Do I forget about it?
It fills the entrance to the muffler so does it make a difference?

Thanks for any feed back.

I just left it alone.

Did my cuts and whatever was still there was there. That was 10K miles ago so I'm guessing it hasn't hurt anything.
