I think that I paid about the same amount for my Monster's 600 mile service.

I just had the 600 mile service performed on my Multistrada and I paid a bit more than that. However, I had them install a lightweight clutch basket, billet pressure plate, billet clutch spring retainer and open clutch cover while they were at it.

I took a Maintenance class this pass winter at BCM Ducati. (http://www.bcmducati.com) It only coast 75.00 for two days. They teach you how do your own bike maintenance. Oil change, belts, valves and such. BCM is in Laconia, NH. It might save you some coin.

That's awesome, I'll have to ask the shops in CO to see if I can find someone willing to do that. I'd go in a heartbeat. (mostly for the valve adjustment stuff, never done that)

The only thing I can think of buying is the gauges to measure your distance on the valves and a caliper to measure your shims.

You can always call the BCM shop and they will let you know. They are very cool!

don't forget a service manual, (technical training would be good but what the heck) a belt tension gauge, a selection of good quality tools plus a few specialised ones, a compression gauge, a torque wrench, a Mathasis hand held computer diagnostic tool to check your FI settings and make any adjustment necessary, an exhaust gas analyzer too. A lift/bench to get the bike off the ground (easier on the back) is useful, an air compressor, tire gauge, hmmmm ok I think I made my point.. Someone else can add it all up.

As with most things "it depends".

Mainly, the 600 mile "service" is an oil change, getting rid of the first batch of oil thats got lots more contaminants than usual becasue the motor is new and has spent the last 600 mile grinding off all the high points on all the bearing surfaces.

If thats all they did, then you've been robbed...

If you look in your owners manual, you'll see that Ducati say they are also supposed to "check": spark plugs,carb/throttle body sync, chain tension, timing belts, flexible cables, clutch and brake controls, steering head bearings, air filter, lights, battery liquid level, clutch and brake fluid, brake pad wear, tyre wear and pressure, "torque of nuts and bolts" as well as replace the oil, oil filter and fuel filter (I didn't realise that one!)

If they did all of that, then your price doesn't sound _too_ bad...

You'll notice that list _doesn't_ include valve clearance checks - if you go to an "old school" Ducati mechanic, they'll tell you "you _always_ have to check the valve clearances at the first service, no matter _what_ Ducati tell you". (they'll probably also say "the new clearance specs are a load of ****, I'm gonna set them to the _old_ specs")

If they checked the valve clearances too, I'd say you got a pretty good price.

big

Edit: I didn't say "nuts" up there, but if thats what the board software wants, so be it ;-)

BCM just did my first service for $240USD which included a hi-flow airfilter and a 14T countershaft sprocket (almost $100 for these parts). Also got a dyno run and minor tuning included. ;D If you're anywhere close to central NH, I can't recommend BCM highly enough. For example, folks bring their bikes from Ontario, Vermont, Upstate New York for service at BCM.

I paid about $325 for 600 mile service in Denver. So, yeah, if anyone finds a maintenance class in CO, please do tell!

My 600 mile service was about $330 USD in Ohio. Nothing special done, just the recommended stuff.

Picked mine up last night... $235.00 with free first inspection and a 10% discount on my first service. I even got a full overview of what was done and some suggestions from the head Ducati Mechanic that did the work.
