"50% less maintenance cost on every 2007 Ducati"

Is this true, in practice? Do any of you have hard data to support this advertisement from Duc's website?
It says this applies to EVERY '07 model. Any ideas as to what is so different between these '07 motors and those of '06???

Thanks.

I don't think the number is going to be 50... Most likely a 25% less maintenance cost since services are going to be every 7.5K instead of 6K for what I understood... :)
Ah. As that the essence of what they're doing? Requiring less frequency between the valve adjustments? I guess that's one way to do it, but what is going on inside that changes what has been the status quo for so long? Are they just using some kind of coating on the moving bits?
ya I call BS on this too, I just think your going have longer intervals between services instead of cheaper ones..
It's not that I'm in a position to say or know much, being that I don't currently own a Ducati. But for them to flatly state "50% reduction" is quite weird. Perhaps I've missed the information, but I haven't seen any verbiage about any of the new '07 power plants which says that they've made mechanical changes which would lessen the need for frequent adjustments.

For instance, isn't the '07 S2R 1000 the same bike as '06, save but for different paint?

This is a very important question because I think the most common perception of those of us who don't own Ducs is that they require (relative to Japanese sports) frequent and costly maintenance. Undoubtedly, that's what Ducati is responding to with that claim.
I was under the impression that this reduction in maintenance cost was due to improvements in quality controll and factory tolerances.
can we merge this with the other 3 discussion on the subject?
I think this may have been covered here or another Ducati site but I seem to remember reading that in addition to the extended service interval the actual services preformed were reduced. Some previous mandatory adjustments were replaced by lower cost "inspections". Hence the total claim of 50% less. Of course if your inspection reveals that you need and adjustment then you pay more :-[

This is not only a Ducati thing, BMW are doing simalar tricks this year to claim lower total operating cost.

The processes for maintenance have been simplified and time quotas reduced. But it's up to the dealer to follow that, and that doesn't change discrepancies in labour cost. Also some dealers have actually refused to acknowledge the new service intervals and procedures... buyer beware in those cases.
