I think a 1000ds will do 140.
The aero drag on monsters is proabably about the same across the model line.
So, if you put enough NO boost to get power levels of a 1000ds,
you could most assuredly run 140mph on a 620.

Of course, with a NO boost of ~+40hp, you'd probably only get one run in before the motor explodes.
can you even do 140 indicated on your SS? how about radar verified?

I hit about 145 indicated at the end of the front straight at PIR. It's pretty long for a track straight, but not top speed/salt flat long, and I'm geared so that I come close but don't hit the rev limiter at the end of said straight. Assume a 10% speedo error (I don't think it's that big) and I'm 10 mph short. Slightly taller gearing and a longer stretch and I think I could get there.

edited to add: I think I'm geared 15-42. I had 15-44 on there, but I would hit the limiter (top gear) 3/4 of the way down the straight. Using the advertised rev limiter I calculated that to be 137mph a while back. My theoretical new max I think is 151, and I get pretty close to the limiter. Of course, this assumes that my tach is more accurate than my speedo, which may or may not be the case. Last time I actually looked down at my speedo at my top speed I promptly had an off-track excursion, so I don't really do that anymore.

now what if you didn't have all that bodywork on your bike?

I've run the same speeds without my lowers.

My bike doesn't exactly slice through the air like the superbikes and I-4s...

I would put umpteen dollars that an S4Rs would do 140,
and 90% of umpteen on a S4R,
and about 70% of that on a 1000ds,

so, it can be done, the question is - how many ponies does it take,
and could you get that many out of a 620 (if only for a tiny bit of time).

People get insane power with NO, but it definately comes at a cost and is detrimental to engine longevity.

i've "wound out" the speedo (160 indicated) on my s4r with AND without a gearing change (-1 front sprocket). actually, being able to peg the speedo in 5th is what led me to change the gearing. 6th was just an "extra". ;D

how fast has anybody gone on an S4 ?. I have a problem with wind drag. Near 120, the wind wants to pull my helmet off. Just curious on top speed of my bike, because I can't take it there.
MM
how loose is your helmet? windscreen or no? best you can do is tuck real good: get your head in the dead-air behind the instrument cluster and tuck your elbows in real tight.

I had on my HJC  full face on, snug fit, w/ fairing. I just bought a Shoei RF900 that I can't use 'til spring :'(. The reason I said I can't find the top speed is because of my neck being weak from an accident.(I'm the one that was hit head on 2yrs ago and only have half my neck muscles)
I have noticed the BIG power difference between my 750Dark and my S4. My 750 was screaming mommy when I got near 100 (my gearing was I think 15-41)

Perfectly timed, I got this months issue of Motorcycle Consumer news in the mail tonight, and it has the performance numbers from all the bikes the've ever tested!

(These are radar'd numbers, and numbers from a dyno, fwiw.)
Model - hp - top speed
Monster 620 - 54.3 - 116
MTS 620 - 57.5 - 117
S2r 800 - 68.3 - 129
M900ie - 75.3 - 134
900SS - 74.7 - 139 (I guess my fairing is doing something!)
S4 - 97.4 - 147
MTS - 82.3 -136

Hmm. Comparing the different models - a 1000ds ~might~ do 140 mph, but I doubt it.
I wish I had excel on this computer. I think a monster would need on the order of 83 or so hp to turn 140, so, a healthy 1000ds could do it, and a 620 that gains 30 hp from NO could do it.

(These are the closest models, they don't review every bike that comes out.)

No clutch and less wind drag. This might be your next bike.
