I was searching through the DML last night and found a post about Nitros on a 620 that ran 140mph! Is this bike still around

given the correct gearing and enough flatout road and time to get there...feasably a 620 could possibly get to 140mph....you'de probably need a sickeningly small rear sprocket like a 35 tooth or something....and about 5minutes+ pushing towards the top end...and you'de be ragged out from holding on unless you put some sort of decent wind deflection on....


just saying it is possible....I'll agree that is generally isn't likely....but is possible!

not without a LOT Of motor work, slick.

Mathematically possible, in the world of gearing, but nowhere enough power to overcome aerodynamic drag.

if anybody bothers to search for the original thread(s) on this subject, it's been hashed, re-hashed, over-hashed, discussed, beat into the ground.

we've had the discussions, done the math. anybody that still thinks it's possible for a 620 can do 140 just doesn't get it.

I think a 1000ds will do 140.
The aero drag on monsters is proabably about the same across the model line.
So, if you put enough NO boost to get power levels of a 1000ds,
you could most assuredly run 140mph on a 620.

Of course, with a NO boost of ~+40hp, you'd probably only get one run in before the motor explodes.

can you even do 140 indicated on your SS? how about radar verified?

I hit about 145 indicated at the end of the front straight at PIR. It's pretty long for a track straight, but not top speed/salt flat long, and I'm geared so that I come close but don't hit the rev limiter at the end of said straight. Assume a 10% speedo error (I don't think it's that big) and I'm 10 mph short. Slightly taller gearing and a longer stretch and I think I could get there.

now what if you didn't have all that bodywork on your bike?

I've run the same speeds without my lowers.

My bike doesn't exactly slice through the air like the superbikes and I-4s...

I would put umpteen dollars that an S4Rs would do 140,
and 90% of umpteen on a S4R,
and about 70% of that on a 1000ds,

so, it can be done, the question is - how many ponies does it take,
and could you get that many out of a 620 (if only for a tiny bit of time).

People get insane power with NO, but it definately comes at a cost and is detrimental to engine longevity.

i've "wound out" the speedo (160 indicated) on my s4r with AND without a gearing change (-1 front sprocket). actually, being able to peg the speedo in 5th is what led me to change the gearing. 6th was just an "extra". ;D

how fast has anybody gone on an S4 ?. I have a problem with wind drag. Near 120, the wind wants to pull my helmet off. Just curious on top speed of my bike, because I can't take it there.

how loose is your helmet? windscreen or no? best you can do is tuck real good: get your head in the dead-air behind the instrument cluster and tuck your elbows in real tight.
