Engine Oil light

Hi,

I just got my first Ducati, an 07 Monster 695, and have a newbie question.
When I start the motorcycle, the Engine Oil light comes on, and remains on till I switch out of neutral. It comes on again once I switch back to neutral. While in gear the light does not switch on.
Checked the window, and Oil level looks ok.
Is this normal for the bike?

TIA

Re: Engine Oil light

You sure it is the oil pressure light or is it the neutral light? Green or red?

Orange = Engine Light
Red = Oil Pressure
Green w/ "N" = Neutral indicator
Green w/ arrows = Turn signal.

If it is the red light -- you want to get that checked ASAP.

Ok, I checked it again.

When I turn on the Ignition, the neutral and engine oil pressure lights turn on and remain on.

When I turn on the engine, the neutral light stays on but the engine oil pressure light goes off.

When I switch off the engine, the engine oil pressure light switches on.

The bike works ok, dosent stall. Checked the window, and Oil level looks ok.
Is this normal?

TIA

yes that is normal, if the engine is not on the pump is not spinnin' so no oil pressure.

Thanks AaronB
That clarifies my doubt.

I had checked the owners manual, and it said that the light was supposed to switch off in a few seconds, just like the "Check Engine" light. That confused me.
