Tank removal and installation....what do I need to know?

I have to remove my tank in the next few days. Any "gotchas" I should be aware of? General steps? And anything I should be aware of for putting it back on?

thanks.

ps... I have a '05 S4r

Assuming it will be empty, right? What how the lines are routed when you reinstall it; it seems that a number of people get kinked hoses and find out 10 miles from home.

I would get some MotionPro quickdisconnects for when you put it back together...makes it much easier.

(I think i got mine at kneedraggers.com. dunno if one of our sponsors carries them.)

pad the rectifier (electrical gismo with knife-edge fins on it) with a towel or a sweatshirt or something in case the tank slips out of your hands and goes over backwards. (Don't ask me how I know)

Where do those thin washers on the tank pin go?
Between the tank and frame brackets?
or
on the ends of the pins? on the outside of the tank brackets?

They go on the ends of the pins on the outside of the tank brackets. the only thing on the inside of the tanks mounting points are the plastic sleeves that fit inside the frame mount.

And +1 on the quick disconnects. You'll need 2 of the 5/16" ones and make sure you label them somehow so you know which line goes where when you clip them back together. Will start up everytime that way...

If you install the disconnect on one line backwards, they will only go one way and you do not need to label them. If the disconnects you purchase have a one way check valve, you will naturally do this as one line feeds the FI and the other line returns the unused fuel back into the tank.

Thanks for the info, I'd removed my tank way back before xmas and forgot where they went. Cant understand why they made them so thin tho, thats what made me think they could go between the brackets.
