The tire height of the stock 180/55-17 is 55% of 180 mm so 99 mm.
The height of the 180/60-17 tire is 60% of 180 mm so 108 mm, the difference is only 9 mm.
If you extend the tie-rod 5 mm the rear is raised by roughly 16 mm so its a more efficient way to raise the seat.
The benefit of fitting a larger tire is that you dont reduce the gap between the chain and the swingarm.
Some people run into issues when raising the rear too high because the chain rubs too much on the chain sliding shoer.

That seems entirely reasonable to me. I have done similar thing with my M900 on several occasions by running a 120/60 front instead of the stock 120/70.

Increased aspect ratio to raise rear question
What do you all think about changing rear tire size on Monster S4 from original 180/55/17 to a 180/60 in order to pick up a slight increase in rear ride height? Yes I'm due for tires, yes I realize MS4 has a height adjuster rod but am I better off going oem 180/55 and raising the rear via the adjustable strut or thoughts on the logic behind a slightly taller tire? Why? I feel the front is a bit slower to respond to input as I'd like. Why not adjust the adjustable? It looks like a savage pain to get to. Thanks for your time.
