S4R (996) spark plug socket problem

Hi,

i have trouble removing my front cylinder spark plug. I tried with the underseat toolkit socket but did not work. I suspect the mechanic has installed a 18mm(11/16) instead of a 16mm (5/. The toolkit contains a 5/8 socket.

does anybody has found a 16mm or 18mm commercial socket that can reach the plug without machining the socket ?

There have been a couple threads on here. I think there was a Honda socket that fit somewhere, and someone mentioned a Craftsman 18mm deep socket that fit, but the consensus is either buy a $60.00 BMW socket, or a cheap 18mm socket and grind the bottom down. A bit of searching on the forum should give you all the info.

thanks guys,

i spoke with the mechanic who did the 10k maintenance. he put a 18mm plug so that leaves even less clearance around the plug. he told me to bring a 18mm deep socket (from the hardware store) and he will machine it for me. i had bought the Cruztools 5/8 16mm spark plug socket thinking the plug was a 16. That one should work for the 16mm plugs as its outer diameter is about 20-21 mm.
