Yep it is..

It says it's had it's 15k service done because of age, not use. Odometer reads 2700! (I mean.. Wow It's new. damn.)
The belts can go wonky if they're left to sit. They set in place and can cause vibration.

$5500, but it's been up a while.. Freeze is about to set in. I bet you could get them to go lower. Looks absolutely bone stock.

So the 2005 S2R800 doesn't come with a dry clutch? That is one of the things I loved about the Monsters I had - they all had amazing shifting, and I see complaints with the s2r800 being "clunky."

I heard back - he said the tank was replaced but who knows how long it was run after that. I asked about the tank being lined (because I don't want to have to only buy marine gas) and he only reiterated what as in the ad: "replaced with a brand new factory tank."

I did this right before my bike was stolen. but I also paid $300 to have it lined (before it was installed) so that I could run normal (Ethanol) gas in the tank without it swelling again.

No, it's a wet clutch.
I've no experience of wet clutch monsters.
But I've heard the clutch pull is much less, and the 800 was always the nod for commuter riding.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd be waiting for the right 1000. The dry clutch was always what drew me to it. The clutch sound..
That said, that 800 is a very unusually low mileage bike.

The S4RS. Man, those things are another category altogether. Effectively the bike we're both used to with considerably more top end power.
I wonder how well they plod along in traffic?

Are there any Ducatis that like to plod along in traffic?
Mine wants a lot of clutch slipping to not go too fast.

Nor do I - all mine have been dry clutch with open plate - I am with ya there.

I am always a little weary of something that hasn't been ridden at all, and is that old. I am not looking for the top end power. (I don't know if "plodding" is possible with either of these beasts.) I feel like the S2R is the perfect bike for me - the torque, the sound, and the balance for my body type - all perfect. My M900 was just way too light and always had me "white knuckling" when I had to pass a semi. Not the case with the S2R1000. The S4R might be a bit too much bike for me, but then again, that's what I thought the first time I got on my S2R - for about 10 minutes, until the grinning began...

The S4RS does not like to be in traffic. Very jumpy throttle and gets hot. You are also right about the difference between the maintenance costs between the air and water cooled bikes because of the complexity of the 4V motors. So if you do not work on your bike and have to pay for everything forget the S4RS and the 800cc S2r and keep looking for that 1K S2R. The 800cc S2R has lots of cheap substandard parts than the 1K one. Main difference being the suspension. Not adjustable at all. Second being the brakes. 300mm front rotors vs 320mm rotors on the 1K and I believe different calipers up front also. Good luck.

Thank you for this. It looks like these are battery powered rather than connected to the battery. Did you do anything special to connect it to the battery, and do you think doing so is that much of an advantage? It looks like it is a mobile device in that you don't permanently affix it to the vehicle, so you need to hide it and occasionally remove to charge...

So what did you get in the end? S4R/RS, S2R 1K or S2R?

I first bought their Trackimo 3G Car/Marine GPS Tracker hooked it to the battery and hid the actual tracker in the instrument cluster. This required connecting the bike to battery charger/maintainer in my garage because the battery in Trackimo if set on one daily GPS ping lasts approx 3 days.

Now I have this setup:

Trackimo 3G

Trackimo Vehicle/Marine Kit - Power supply/Charger without Fuse

Trackimo Power Bank 6000mAh Portable Charger

Connect the Vehicle Kit to the battery and the micro USB plug to the Micro USB socket on the Power Bank. Then use USB cord with USB A male on one end and Micro USB male on the other end. Plug USB A into Power Bank and the other end into Trackimo. This way if you ride the bike at kleast once a week you don't need to use battery charger hooked up to the bike. Only during winter.

As for hiding the Trackimo in the instrument cluster it's really easy.

1. Remove the two hex mushroom lugs holding the cluster to the tripple.
2. Unplug the wiring harness from the cluster
3. Unscrew the small Phillips screw that holds the middle plastic cover with the two buttons and the control lights (flip the cluster upside down and you will see the small screw)
4. Unscrew the small Torx screw in the middle of the instrument cluster that was previously covered with the control lights cover.
5. Gently pull the top of the instrument cluster that houses the electronics from the bottom part that is empty with lots of space.
6. Drill big enough hole that the Micro USB end of the USB cord can be routed inside.
7. Use the velcro patch that comes with the Trackimo to secure the tracker to the bottom of the empty part of the cluster.
8. Hook up the cord to the Tracker
9. Re-assemble the instrument cluster and mount it back on the tripple.
10. Secure the Power Bank either inside of the airbox (for stealth installation) or under the seat.
11. Connect the USB A cord coming from the instrument cluster to the Power Bank
12. Connect the Vehicle Power Supply to the bike battery and the Micro USB end to the Power Bank

13. Set the Trackimo to ping GPS once a day on the tracking website
14. Set the Trackimo to send SMS and email when the bike starts to move
15. Set SMS and email to be sent when Trackimo battery is low. This will give you chance to connect charger to the bike and recharge the Power Bank however with the Powwer Bank installed you will not run into this if you ride at least once a week. In case you let the Trackimo run out of power you will need to open the cluster to turn it on once it's charged back.

Now you can open the app or the web page and see where the bike is after requesting GPS ping through the app or web. If you want to watch movement in real time just switch the GPS ping to one minute interval.

Enjoy peace of mind.

Let me know if you have any other questions or problem with disassembly of the cluster. Seems intimidating but in reality I can now do it in about 2 minutes.
