Help me decide: 2009 M1100 12k miles $6k or new 2017 M797 $10k?

The new 797 is white which I much prefer but I can live with the 1100's red/white.
I feel the 797 is too expensive for a 70hp bike but for $4k more I'm getting a bike that's 8 years (and 12k miles) younger ...

Which would you choose and why?

I used to have a 696 for 4 years and sold it fir a daytona 675. I regretted that after a year and started looking around. I tested a 2009 1100. They are hard to ride in the city with tall gearing and a heavy dry clutch. I ended up with a 2012 1100evo that has a wet clutch and I dropped the front tooth to 14t. The gearing on the 797 is similar to the scrambler and much shorter which is better for the monster imho. I'd go with the 797

The only real benefit of the new 797 is the warranty.
If you don't do your own maintenance, that is significant.
If you do, then a(ny) used bike is a no-brainer.

Fought the same war! Bought the 1100S, and I'm happy with my choice, especially now with the DP ECU, it runs better.

The only thing I think you should considerate is to buy I duc with traction and abs system! That can make a huge diference and can spare you from a couple of "events"....

I ended up buying a 797. The 75 horsepower is still enough to get you in trouble. Coming from my Harley it's downright fast. Especially down low. So far I love mine!

Thanks! Me too. Took her on a 300 miles round trip ride over the weekend for a car show and she ran beautifully. Got a little sore but nothing too terrible.
