Headlight Mounting Poll!

First poll here for me.

I'm thinking of getting rid of the U mount on my 2006 Ducati Monster S2R 800. There are a few options, please tell me what you think is best considering appearance, weight, and price - comments are welcome too.

1. Black CNC Racing Collars with Carbon Fiber Headlight Mounts

2. Black CNC Racing Collars with Powder Coated Stock Mounts

3. Black Aluminum "all in one" Mounts (eBay has a few)

4. Headlight with built-in mount that connects to the lower triple (as seen on MotoWheels)

5. Other - please reply to this thread with your suggestion.

Thanks!

Not true! I ignore a lot of it but if it makes you feel good I'll vote.

I actually like the U bracket...imo it's cleaner than fork mounts and looks the business especially when it's chopped/lowered/rewelded and powder coated. I currently use the CNC Racing collars out of necessity, my IMA clip ons won't clear the U. I have a love/hate relationship with these...they look excellent but are WAY overpriced for what they are, a couple thin aluminum discs and 4 tube spacers. The threads will strip if you so much as look at them cross eyed and there is nothing in the way of vibration dampening. I destroyed 2 pairs before I realized you can't use carbon mounting ears with them, they can't handle the additional movement and the screws will back out and your headlight will fall right off if you're unlucky enough. Really can't believe so many ppl had so many good things to say about them. Finally, after 2 helicoils and switching back to the steel mounting ears I think they're secure but I'm paranoid and checking on them constantly none the less. Gee, I guess there's a lot more "hate" than love! If I had a do-over I'd spend a bit more and get the GSG brackets...my god those are pure sex. I used to own the black rubberized eBay "dominator" brackets and they worked well but were pretty clunky and ugly. There are also knock offs of the LSL brackets that pique my interest a bit but they don't seem to be available in the U.S. I do own the Motowheels bracket and like it very much, but it's hard to find a bottom mount 7" headlight that looks nearly as good as our Bosch. If you go that route I'd check out the grooved 7" "Harddrive" brand, the others are too long and goofy looking, like they belong on an old Indian or Hardley not our race bred Italian machines. And see if Martin or Matt will sell you the mount separately because the kit they sell is way over priced for the bracket and what is a generic "Drag Specialties" light meant for the Harley aftermarket. I couldn't return it fast enough when I bought it, hated the look of that thing. I still have the mount if you're interested in buying it.

Good luck!

Oh I just noticed your poll includes the CNC Racing collars with carbon fiber mounts...that setup may be ok for the OE light, but my Truck-Lite was way too heavy, even in my carbon bucket. Or maybe my carbon brackets weren't rigid enough. But I wouldn't trust it, if you're going to use the collars you'd better stick with the steel brackets. My carbon brackets will also be for sale when I get around to posting them in the classifieds. Shame it didn't work out for me, as that setup with the Truck-Lite plus Motowheels carbon bucket plus carbon ears plus powder coated ring looked AWESOME.
