advise on buying a 2006 S2r1000

What are some weak points I should look for when I go to see it?

90% of it will be the same as any other used bike.

Maintenance is important on Ducatis; you'll want to see records of proper maintenance.

The only significant mechanical differences from "normal" are the desmo valve setup and the dry clutch.
The dry clutch does not need any special attention.
The desmo valves need to be checked regularly, and the cambelts replaced every 12K miles or two years, whichever comes first.

It probably has a plastic gas tank, which can be problematic.

Good to know that other than the fuel tank there weren't big trouble spots to look for. I'm coming from a '99 748 superbike and dealing with those flaking rockers and the oil galley plug were a nightmare. As long as there isn't anything like that I think I'll be ok.
