Powder coating
 
I want to powder coat the alternator and clutch cover. I have tried looking in the forums and couldn't find anything. Has anyone got any potential problems doing this? do you need to take the oil sight glass out? thanks for your help

You would be better off with ceracote

i sent mine out for powdercoat. i got replacement OEM sight glasses from ebay for like $6. my concern is going to be the bearing on the flywheel side...

That said, I powder coated a few parts on my bike including some on/near the exhaust so far looks okay no issues.

I havenít gotten on here in a awhile and just saw this thread. Iíve been doing a color change on my M750 on and off for a couple of months. First thing I did was use Cerakote black velvet on my exhausts and they turned out really nice. Has held up perfectly with the heat. I intend on applying the same to my rearsets to black them out as well now that the tank is done.

The tank... My tank had a fist-sized dent and scrape on the left side. I wanted to see if I could get the dent out before springing for a replacement and after trying a few things managed to get it out and like new again. I welded two thin rods to the center of the dent and pulled with some stout pliers. It popped out but left some ripples and also the ridge that was smashed in at the top was no longer defined. I got a small can of Bondo and did some sculpting and sanding to redefine the ridge and smooth out the ripples. Iím well happy with the way it came out.

After that was done I tried to vinyl wrap it with satin 3M 1080. All I can say about that is trying to wrap an early model Monster tank with one piece of vinyl is not something Iíd recommend because there are so many curves and angles. Turned into a hot mess at the bottom so I scrapped the wrap and decided to paint it instead with a satin finish. I did wrap the fender and passenger seat cover though and really loved working with it on those parts.

Iíd love to see photos of your tank once your done.
