Looking for alternator cover

Hey guys, so I’m looking for an alternator cover for my 696, and came across this one. By far the cleanest one I’ve seen. Except that the inside has this weird discoloration. Anybody have any ideas what could have caused this and whether I should stay away?

As long as it doesn't have any cracks or seeps oil, it should be good. Do they guarantee it against cracks?

Only place I can find it cheap is ebay, soo 14 day return window, aand all the way across the world. I asked the seller about the discoloration or possible cracks, he said it was in good condition except for minor scratches. $200 used or $700. What a conodrum lol

Yeah, even used parts are expensive for this bike.
- Used starter for my CBR: $25.
- Used starter for my Monster $108.
- New stator and R/R for my CBR: $86.
- New stator by itself for my Monster: $160, plus shipping.
- Why do we do this to ourselves?

I guess have the bike broken down by the time it arrives, so all you have to do is install it to test it.

The 796 and 1100 covers should fit as well.

You’re soo right! Buuut it is my first bike! I have noticed the higher prices for parts.

Do you think it would matter if the cover was from a 796? Or do you know what other covers are interchangeable with a 696? From what I’ve researched, the cover is interchangeable with the 1100, and I’ve seen parts like the exact fit cam belts are the same for the 696/796/1100. I think I saw in a post you mentioning the body panels are Interchangeable with the 696 and 796.

Actually, I'm looking online and can't verify that the covers are interchangeable, nor do I know what the difference would be. I've only looked closely at the parts and haven't found a single difference. I haven't taken any measurements, though. I'd be willing to bet money that they will fit, but it would be a gamble.

The body panels between all 696/796/1100 models are completely interchangeable. I know this for sure.

Did you go down on the bike?

Yeah I’ve scoured the forums and web and I have managed to find out the part numbers are almost identical. 24221201AD is the cover number for the 696 and say for a 2011 796 it’s 22421013CD. Only one website I found shows it might be interchangeable.

Nah I didn’t go down. I seem to have a small hairline crack that seeps oil and I can never get the inspection cover to sit properly so there’s always a little oil leaking from that as well. I’m worried the oil might get to the back tire while riding. Aaand I tried fixing it soo Yamabonding and epoxy on the whole thing just looks sooo wrong.

Soooo after a few weeks of waiting for parts I opened up the alternator side cover. Had the fork return spring spring broken, and the washer behind the flywheel wash lodged between shaft and smaller lay shaft gear. I changed these pieces out, including a drum control fork, the service bulletin kit and used alternator cover. No more leaks from the inspection cover, and completely normal shifts! Might post a new thread showing my YouTube mechanic adventures.
