@DarR , did this cause some sideways movement of the device, when the bars were turned.. is that why it's not a viable option to use that center damper bolt? Did that seem to work for you in terms of a location, but just didn't seem stable enough for long term setup?
Yes, my GPS did rotate but that was not an issue at all. I did not like torquing a bolt which necessitated movement that required "o" rings. As for the location, using that bolt would have permitted my GPS to be positioned on the left hand side; same as on my 959 Panigale. I'm now used to have it "off-center" to the right.
