I installed one of these a month ago and it is the best $15 I ever spent

JosephHanna 08-02-2015 01:26 PM

That's weird cause the one I purchased did absolutely nothing for glare. I'd argue it might of even made it worse. I kept it on cause it does prevent scratches but for sun shielding and glare resistance it does zero :(

Maybe I got a defective one?

rsr417 08-02-2015 03:47 PM

Maybe it's working better since I had installed the small black PUIG windshield that helps stop all the front sunlight from hitting the display. Did you get the Matt finished one??

Yes I got the exact model # listed here. It's a matte finish. It's just utterly useless except for protection of the screen itself. Like I said mine (and maybe it's defective) is at least as hard to see in sun glare (maybe harder) than the bare screen itself!

Scubaman 08-03-2015 07:07 AM

I also put it on. I rode Bear mountain Saturday 6 1/2 hours. Whenever the sun was behind me zero vis of the screen. Luckily i really dont need to look so much anymore.

Sonic Duck 08-03-2015 10:36 AM

It's better than stock but is far from a miracle cure all.

Rosso Classico 09-26-2016 01:39 PM

What about the ones from Speed Angels and/or Brotect ? Lots of options on Ebay/Amazon nowadays, the important thing is, do they actually help screen visibility or...?

LEE_YZ1200 09-26-2016 08:59 PM

Must get the matte finish to reduce glare. I spent 3.99 from Hong Kong. Perfect

Lee, would you say that there's a substantial difference or...? Could you post a link of the one you got ?

Thanks ;)

PS : If anyone could post some pics showing the difference with one installed i'd really appreciate it ;)

LEE_YZ1200 09-27-2016 05:12 AM

Absolutly it makes a difference, I mainly got it to protect the plastic screen from scratches. As simply wiping dirt off with gloves leaves permanent scratches in it. Ill post some pics tomorrow for you

Thanks man, i appreciate it ;)

Will wait for the pics, cheers !

Gents, i'm ready to pull the trigger on one but i know [email protected] all which one to get - and it's not about the friggin' 10€ either, it's just that i'd hate to buy and install something which it might prove worthless at the end of the day especially after waiting 10 days for it to arrive from the intrawebs...

There's one from Speedo Angels and another one from Brotect amongst other ones, most are offered in clear and matte finishes, what say you ? I mean, Lee says it works and JosephHanna says it does jack and [email protected]

LEE_YZ1200 10-04-2016 05:20 PM

If the sun is high and shines directly into the screen then yep, you still cant see shit. evrn with the matte finish. but in saying that, it reduces glare in every other situation. Def dont go gloss or it will be just as bad as stock!
It never bothered me that bad anyway, i put it on more to stop scratching the screen just like my mobile phone screen😎

I will be installing a carbon 1/4 fairing soon anyway, so that should eliminate glare?

So, i installed the matte one from Speedo angels (good, straight-up/no bullshit packaging and fast delivery btw) and...It does improve readability - you still have to put the display into night-mode though for better results.

What i don't like - and this is just a pet peeve of mine - is that the screen is more blurry now - typical of matte protectors really (same thing on smartphone screens) and that - for the life of me - was never able to install these friggin' things without A) leaving air bubbles underneath them and B) aligning them properly :grin

Anyway, for 10€, and just for the fact that it protects the easily scratch-able display made from haribo jelly AND also helping with the readability (somewhat) i'm happy ;)

In the future i'll be also trying the ultra-clear non-matte one as to see if there's any noticeable difference between them.

Cheers

Maybe we have had different experience, I also had the Speedo Angels in matte finish installed on my last ride, in some situations I actually found it worse than without the screen protector. Maybe it's the blurry effect that Rosso mentioned. So now I'm considering removing it, I don't know, I might keep it for scratch protection though.

I think it's because it's indeed blurrier compared to stock, still, it's definitely better (not by much though) compared to not having it installed.

Give the ultra-clear a try if the matte one isn't to your liking - just have something put on it to avoid the damned scratches ;)

I believe the ultra clear will be quite glossy, I have it on my phone. :laugh

Well, today I brought in my bike for the 1,000 km oil change. My mechanic asked me, is there a problem with his eyes or the display screen? I told him I added a matte screen protector, and he said it makes his eyes hurt, lol.

:laugh

LEE_YZ1200 10-27-2016 10:01 PM

There must be very different types of matte protectors, i have one on my phone and on my monster, neither make the screen blurry or difficult to read. It just reduces potential glare, and thats about it.
Very interesting....🤔

Could you share the store information from HK where you bought it?

Thanks!

I got better results from a darker windscreen.

I can believe that Duc :wink

i mean, even on my previous 796 which didn't have a Full-TFT screen, under certain angles you weren't able to clearly read the dash - especially with the bikini fairing off, i can imagine that the darker one works better...

The real question is : would the OEM bikini fairing which is sold separately (the one that came with the Stripe model) help in this situation seeing as the plexiglass is clear ?

Any stripe owners care to chime in ?

I dont own a stripe, but i do have the ducati original sport bikini fairing you can get now for the 1200s. It is see through at the top but grades to black down the bottom, it definitely helps if the the sun is in front of you, but not when it is behind. Its also a bit of rip off unfortunately, I got ot at cost as part of the bike purchase, but at full price its over $400 AU for a bit of plastic essentially... It does look bloody good though..... ;-)

DarR 12-12-2016 04:28 PM

I own an R and and can't recall having a glare issue although I have no point of reference with an S. The stand alone price for this fairing is outrageous.

Rosso Classico 04-25-2019 03:38 AM

Hey gents

Any idea on how to properly remove these things ? 1st one served me well but i need to replace it with the spare one since after 3 years of riding in all weather conditions it's scratched (plus, i have a water drop trapped in there after a torrential rain).

I'm afraid i'll scratch the screen since it's made out of Haribo jelly* ;)

* I don't even want to imagine how the dash would have looked after (barely) 3 years of use without installing one, in my opinion, they're mandatory if you got a bike with a TFT screen.

steeve 04-25-2019 09:11 AM

I can highly recommend the screen angels.
