Battery issue?

This is a 2012 1100 Evo ABS model. On the multimeter I have, my battery shows 13.46v fully charged. The other day it wouldn't start, just made a repetitive clicking noise, and it was showing 12.94v. This implies that anything less than fully charged isn't good enough.

Sometimes, pushing the starter button fails, and I wait for the dash to cycle back to the mileage, whereupon it usually starts.

Both situations normal for these?

I had that problem. Is this the clicking or does it sound less metallic (like a relay that isn't getting sufficient power)?

I never resolved this issue, but it hasn't done it in a long time. I suspect it was the starter solenoid. If yours is a relay click then the relay isn't getting enough power. Your voltage implies the battery is fine, so I'd check for loose battery cables.

My belt isn't exposed, so can't say if cam belt twitches, and your noise sounds a bit louder.. but yes, seems to come from alongside the battery.

Terminals were tight.

My car dyno guy said "solenoid or starter motor failing", because, he says, it should start with 12.94v. He suggested I use my multimeter to check the current draw when I start it. I told him the noise seems to come from alongside the battery, and he asked if my bike had a remote solenoid. He also said could have a dud cell.

EDIT - It does have a remote solenoid. Part no. 39740031B

Ducati mechanic says more likely battery, maybe a crook cell. Not often the solenoid. Also said it was unlikely to be the starter motor because the rapid clicking is the solenoid not getting enough juice to kick in properly.
Tomorrow, will take the 50 minute ride over to see them, test the battery, and depending on the result, buy what's necessary. At this dealer battery $AU160 and starter solenoid $AU141.60.

You can just jump the bike with a car battery. If it starts, it's the battery.

You can jumper across the solenoid terminals with a screwdriver and see if it cranks, and if so replace solenoid.
Be ready for sparks if you do this! Sounds like a bad solenoid.

It had been starting since 10am on the day it wouldn't start at 5am so not understanding what that would accomplish or indicate.

The cell closest to positive was bulging. I've put a new battery in. Just hope it doesn't pull that stunt again.

Definitely a bad battery.

Just in case, check the charging when the bike is on and make sure it's not being overcharged. Otherwise it will just kill every battery you buy.
