Mini-Review-
SR-i500 Scorpio 2-way Alarm

Date of review: May 26, 2007
Reviewer: Goran
Bike Info: 2006 Ducati Monster S2R Dark

Where purchased:
www.scorpioalarms.com

Why purchased:
Just to make sure that nobody is messing with my bike when I’m not around. ?

Did the product solve the problem or achieve the goal? If not, why?
Yes this product exactly did what I anticipated. It has Shock, Tilt and Ignition Sensors in a basic system plus there are a couple accessories that you can purchase additionally.

Features you thought worked well on the product:
I installed the basic model but am planning to add some new accessories in a future. Shock sensor is adjustable which I like very much. You can adjust sensitivity to suit your needs. As an option you can add backup battery which will trigger your alarm even if power is cut off from the motorcycle battery. Also there is 3-Stage Perimeter Sensor as an optional accessory which triggers your alarm if something comes close to the bike. Remote Ignition Disable is also a special accessory which would turn the bike off if the panic button is pressed but will also automatically cut power if the alarm is triggered.
I would also like to tell you that 2way feature is amazing. Any time your alarm is triggered you will be notified via your remote control. You can setup your remote control to vibrate or beep. A small screen on remote will show you exactly what triggered the alarm:perimeter, shock, tilt or ignition sensor. Also it will show you the time when alarm was triggered.

Installation:
Installation is very simple. Alarm didn’t come with special instructions but after talking to the friendly support center I installed the alarm in minutes. I found many posts here on the forum about questions for installation but there weren’t any answers so I decided to write this review and quick installation guidelines that I also photographed during installation.
Here it is:
Step 1. Remove seat and locate turning signal wires. Follow the wires until you find location of the connector. In my case on S2R Dark connector is located under the side plastic cover (as shown on the photo) remove cover so you can disconnect cable and connect new one in easier.

Step 2. Plug Factory Connector Kit in that connector and plug turning signals on another side of Factory Connector Kit. As shown on the photo.

Step 3. Connect wire from alarm harness to positive side on battery. Then tight everything back together nicely.

Step 4. With double-sided tape or Velcro place your alarm harness under the seat. I removed Tool-Kit plastic cover from the seat for better fit.

Step 5. There is a wire antenna on alarm harness which shouldn’t be close to metal parts of the bike. I placed antenna under my un-chopped tail and “beer tray” For those who chopped the tail I would suggest placing antenna in the opposite direction. You can be creative about this.

This is really plug and play installation if I knew that is that easy I wouldn’t even consider other alarms systems or think about having technician install it for me. I’m so glad I did it myself and probably saved a lot of money doing it. In the past I always had alarm dealer do the work for me.

Summary: Alarm is expensive but I think Scorpio is a well know brand for alarm systems and their plug and play equipment is very easy to setup even for some not technically oriented people. I would strongly encourage that you install your alarm yourself so you can get familiar with functions and setup as well. Then if there is some unexpected outage in a future you can simply remove whole setup in minutes with a couple tools and make bike usable to finish your journey. To all of you who wonder, No there is no need of using the red key for the installation and No, this alarm system will not sacrifice your existing Ducati Anti-Theft system that come with your bike.
