Reason product was purchased
I wanted a little extra security for my baby out in the cold cruel world. Decided to try this one out before purchasing their top of the line model. If it worked out, I'd just move this unit over to my other bike. Other reviews indicated that the low end model(Sport) was superior to the similar Gorilla alarm.
An optional pager can be purchased separately, and can be used for up to three vehicles. Higher end models feature a proximity sensor, and were favored over the Scorpio alarm.
Did the product solve the problem?
Only marginally. I really don't trust it.
Features that worked well
- Remote - Simple and reasonably effective out to about 40 yards, line of sight(25 yards claimed).
- Panic Alarm - Same as above
- Ignition Sensor - Seems to work well.
- Tilt Sensor - Effectively sensitive
- Automatic Re-Arm - Works as adverised (Alarm sounds for 45 seconds, and if undisturbed resets)
- Two stage alarm - Gives off a warning chirp for shock and tilt prior to alarm.
Features or design that did not work well
- 109db Siren - Absolutely dismal. My dog breaks wind louder than this.
- Shock Sensor - At its most sensitive setting I could get it to work by tapping the unit. Bouncing up and down on the bike did not set it off.
Installation or compatibility issues
Took about 15 minutes to install, however I took about an hour deciding where to put it.
- Finding a spot to mount it on a naked bike is an adventure.
Summary
It seems to do the job, but just barely. I actually prefer the Gorilla alarm I installed for a friend last year (which isn't saying a lot). I'll keep it on the bike until I find something better. Oh well, nothing ventured...
