Depends what she's going for really. doubtless there are some good positions there, but it seems the exception rather than the rule.

Most (former) dell employees I know refer to it as "my hell at dell"... It's totally hearsay, but in general it seems few have anything good to say about dell as an employer.

Apple has some operations in Austin. Not much compared to dell's but on jobs.apple.com there are usually about 25 positions open at any given time. Come to the light.

They still have (I believe) a plant and offices in N. Austin near Braker and Metric.
I worked for them in Board Repair at MC1 during the mid-90's, it was a cherry job with no hassles and paid well, too, but I always heard different stories about Manufacturing. That's always true, tho...

You're not gonna' find many Apple fans in the area - they torpedoed Power Computing back in the 90's.
#@$%&!!! Steve Jobs and the horse he road in on - what a prick!

The s/o has experience as a business analyst as well.

IZ, I work at Dell in RR. Dell is pretty much like any company there's good and bad and there can be lots of ambiguity and a demanding schedule depending on your level and which division you're in. I tend to work some pretty crazy hours in and away from the office but a lot of that is because of the global nature of my role. If you have some idea of the areas she's looking at I may be able to help provide some insight on what to expect.

Whole Foods headquarters (as well as flagship store) is right next door to me, and by all accounts a fantastic place to work. Lots of offices there, all though I don't have a clue as to what they do...

p.s. - IBM still has major offices over in the Braker&Burnet rd area. If I were her, I would start with UT, City of Austin, State of Texas. Good benefits and you pretty much gotta' kill someone to lose your job...

Thanks C9. The s/o checked into UT for a job already.

She has 15 years of experience so I'm sure she'll have a few opportunities. Plus, she's going to renew her realtor license there so that will be nice added income. [thumbsup]
