Default Ducs in Austin

Looks like there's A LOT of Duc riders in the area?! [thumbsup]

My wife and I were just discussing Austin, looking at housing, things to do, etc. We are now planning a trip down there to check things out.

After going back to AZ this past week, we decided that we REALLY miss the sun!!

Austin is in the Top 3 for places to live in the US, the housing is affordable and industry is still growing!!

Plus, some of my family is considering moving there as well.

Hmmm..if we can get a house like this, for a similar price..Austin could be a done deal!! [thumbsup]

I will FP!

W're thinking about visiting at the end of June. I think that will be a great time to see if it's too humid or too many bugs for us..but I can live with those conditions as long as I have sun all year around..especially in winter!!

Can you tell me about the traffic situation there? I don't know if you've ever been up to Seattle but the traffic here is crap!! I just did a map from that house's address (out by the lake) to the Aikido dojo in downtown Austin and it was 16 miles (30 minutes). Is that a good estimate?

So, folks around here complain about how bad the traffic is - mostly because of the amount of growth over the path 20 years and the inability for the road infrastructure to keep up. But as someone who has lived in Houston and Dallas - it's not that bad. The traffic does get heavy, but it doesn't last that long.

That time estimate is probably pretty good. From Steiner Ranch to downtown, there are no freeways - in fact there is a very noticeable lack of east-west freeways here. I hope it stays that way in that area though - very scenic - a freeway would F it up.

I dunno scooby, coming from Houston, work hour traffic is ridiculous! I was up in Austin working and getting from Slaughter to downtown took me an hour! with no accidents or anything! Then trying to navigate around downtown right after work and find parking to go to HH took over an hour too... The only thing that kept me from pulling my hair out was the fact that on Mopac, there was an accident (I forget which exit) that pretty much had the entire freeway trying to get to downtown in parking lot mode... I was a little jaded by the whole experience... :-\

Luckily, during any other part of the day, the traffic is as you say, not that bad, and I can get around like I used to.

That said, I still love the city AND all of that gets downgraded a bit (traffic and parking) when you're on a bike [cheeky]

Z, please just don't come in like all the Californians infiltrating the area and think everything's super cheap and just end up paying, what is in fact, very expensive prices in austin (for Austin anyways), thus inflating everything in the area!! :-X

I was a bit surprised a while ago when I found out that 4th street drink prices were the same as those in Houston :'(

Oh, and I hope you like burnt orange too, because you're gonna see it pretty much 100% of the time >

You guys are exaggerating... With the bike, parking is a lot easier than with a car in downtown, and there are ways around the traffic if you know them... And the traffic isn-t all that bad, Of course I might be biased coming from Venezuela where it takes an average of an hour to get anywhere within 5 miles...

I have a parking space for sale downtown in the building at 5th & West for only $45K, fix you right up! ha-ha...

Iz, I don't usually like to encourage emigration to my hometown, but you and your wife feel free to stay at my loft downtown when you visit (if it hasn't sold). Let me know by contacting me at:

jimmy@accidentalsky.com

I don't check my messages here too often.

Thanks everyone.

Cient..I might just take you up on that!! [thumbsup]

I don't think I will need to get downtown too much. I was just using that as an example.

I'm hoping my job would take me away from rush hour traffic situations.

Ha-ha, NO SINGLE GUYS!

I've been a member of this board for 4 yrs, under one name or another (most recently 'bullet boy', inspired to change by recent national events) and have been familiar with Iz (or one of his other aliases) since then. I'm relatively sure he won't get drunk, pick up some party girls and proceed to trash my joint! Not at all sure about the rest of you...

Besides, its self-serving - he's gonna' be in the market to buy, and I know if he stays there, he's gonna' have to have it!
