What spark plugs?
My S4R-sneezes/stalls at take off, been in a couple of times for it, so fix it myself as normal eh?, balanced throttles nearly sorted it, so i had the plugs out, they were loose as well (which would cause the sneezy stuff anyway) and low and behold they have a gap of 1.7mm, which is slightly bigger than the 0.5/0.6 the book says, so, whats the best plugs I can fit?-any idea`s?

Re: What spark plugs?
Champion ra59gc-which is what the Haynes says it should have-i read a road test that said it`s a common fault as the bike broke down on the test, reckoned the plug had been burnt away so i thought i`d have a look

Re: What spark plugs?
I'm guessing those are the cheaper ones from the book...I thought about getting the NGK DCPR9EVX to put in there, if they weren't stock already.
I haven't gotten into the spark plugs/wires at all on this bike yet. What's with the giant ends on the plug wires?

Re: What spark plugs?
Those 'giant ends' on your plug wires are the coils.
I'm fairly certain the NGK's have a different size hex than the Champions. If that is the case, then half of your OEM toolkit is useless... :-/
I've got almost 12k miles on my original Champions, they still looked fine about 2k ago.

Re: What spark plugs?
Stock "stick coils" are as good as it gets. NGK DCP family of plugs has same size hex as champion. ;D

Re: What spark plugs?
I imagine "someone" is going to try and correct me on this, but NGK does not make a correct heat range plug to fit the S4/S4R (9). Whatever it says on the NGK website is wrong (and this replaces a plug on their web site that was wrong, also). I've talked to an engineer at NGK, he admitted this was the case. You can get a NGK in a hotter, "8", heat range that will fit (and this is what some dealers are doing), but it is not right. NGK runs 140f degrees from one range to the next (smaller # is hotter). So, rider beware.
I'm running a Denso Iridium IXU27, which is the equivalent heat range to a NGK "9".
