So, I changed my front sprocket to a 14T on my 2012 Ducati Monster 1100 evo. I wanted to go test ride it and every time I put it in first gear the engine turns off. It feels like something maybe wrong with the kickstand switch based on my symptoms. Visually, the switch appears fine. I unscrewed the switch and the pin looks fine as well. There is a cable that attaches to it as part of the switch that I can remove by hand - this does not seem right. Is it broken? Shouldn't the switch be all one piece (cable permanently connected)? It seems like it would be a safety issue if it was not permanently attached. Any other thoughts?
Definitely sounds like the kickstand safety switch. I did a quick search and there are some videos on YouTube that show how to bypass it. I did not see one for a ducati but it might help.
My problem was the kickstand bolt backed out enough so the switch no longer moved with the stand. So it was always in the down position.
The external bolt for the switch was tight but the bigger one below it holding the kickstand was backing out. When I found it I used thread lock on it.
I now have a paperclip and adjustable wrench under my seat. Just in case
Just an update. I got a used kickstand switch on ebay. I thought it would be straight forward to install, but being a Ducati was not. Took me a good hour. Fixed the problem! All is good now and love the 14T mod!
