Default running one cylinder

1999 monster 750.
So for about 3 months now i have expended all of my minimal knowledge running wires and checking parts for visible damage, continuity, and anything that seems off. My problem is that only my vertical spark plug is firing when the bike is running. When i turn the key and have the horizontal plug removed it quickly sparks twice even if i dont try to start the bike. Ive replaced the Ignition Control Module, plugs, leads, and fuses. I noticed the problem initially while riding. I would loose most of my power intermittently and it would come back all at once(scared the s**t out of me)when i was deep in my throttle. Ive swapped the coils and the problem stays with the horizontal plug. Any thoughts.???

that's pretty odd

could be a bad plug at the ingition control unit
or bad wires to coil
or bad grounds

i'd disconnect the ground wire at the battery and remove, clean and dress every ground on the bike. grounding problems start to pop up as our bikes get older.

Could it be the pickup sensor in the motor itself? Have you moved the coil and ignition module together from one cylinder to the other? If so and the problem stays with the horizontal cylinder I'd check the continuity of the horizontal trigger....there should be something in the service manual about that....

OK - checked the manual: the horizontal pickup has the red and white leads. Quoting from the manual: "The internal circuit of the pickup can be tested without removing it from the engine. Disconnect the pickup you want to test from the wiring of the ignition system. Connect the tester (ohmmeter) across the terminals of the pickup. The reading should be 100 ohms +/- 5%. If the reading differs from this replace the part."
