Default Barnett Clutch won't fit in basket

Hello everyone.

I just purchased a Barnett clutch pack 306-25-40002 that I ordered specifically for my 05 monster 1000s, however, the friction plates teeth don't fit in the basket grooves. The teeth appear to be maybe a fraction of an inch to wide.
What can I do? The clutch basket is not an Oem, but when I compare both original and aftermarket basket they are exactly the same. The only difference in the basket is that one is steel and the other aluminum. I changed the basket because it was worn out.

Has anyone had a problem with fitting this Barnett clutch pack into their basket.

Please help.

Steve

I had to apply two file strokes to each side of all the tangs on all of the friction plates before mine would slip into my basket.

Hi J. What do you mean by 2 file strokes. You mean you filed each side down? That's a lot of work.
Why would Barnett make friction plates that won't fit?

i doubt the problem is with the Barnett plates. i've changed two of them without problems and they've sold bazillions of them with no problems.
sounds like your new basket may be a little off. chinese by chance?

Actually I got it from a Ducati store on ebay. I don't think its the basket. My OEM basket is all worn out and when I slipped the friction plates to test for size they barely fit, the only reason they barely fit is because the grooves are all worn out otherwise they wouldn't fit their either.

Well, crap.
You're between a rock and a hard place. Once you start filing, you're commited but, really, how far off can they be?
I'd take a fresh fine file and lightly file just the edges of the tangs/slots. Might be just some burrs or flashings sticking out. The Barnett plates that I've worked with have all had a nice smooth finish on the edges so I'll still bet it's your basket.
I'll be interested to see how you resolve this.

I'm going to test one friction plate using a grinding wheel, hopefully this will work.
I'll keep you posted.

Hi J.Davis.

Out of curiosity, where did you get your basket from? I got mine from Gotham Cycles. Maybe it was made in China!!! I just emailed Gotham cycles about this. Let's see what they come back with.???

These are pics of friction plate in old OEM worn basket. If this Oem basket wasn't beat up, the plates wouldn't fit
