I'm in the same boat with the same year bike, and I see where you're going. $800 for a brand new Ohlins is way too steep, especially for a street bike. I can purchase and rebuild/revalve an old GSXR double-clicker for ~$300.
I'm not a shock guru, but if we had the specs on the mount points (clevis and "the other end

" ), the stroke length, and overall length. We'd be close enough to revalve/respring as needed.
Has anyone swapped out with other OEM shocks?
{edit}I'm checking with the local shop for recommendations/starting points/other info. I'll post-up anything substantive. {/edit}
{edit2}Lemme see if Traxxion Dynamics has an intern that needs a Thursday project
