Default 97 rear suspension question ....

I own a 97 M750 and I want to swap out the rear shock without spending an assload ( there's some reasonable stuff on eBay ) . My question is , what year monsters and perhaps other Ducati models are compatable with the the 97 ?

Depends on what you mean by "an assload" of money. When my rear shock blew out last winter, I found that Ducati only sold the replacement as an entire suspension unit, and wanted $1200 for it. I got a fully adjustable unit from Ohlins for $800, and it rocks.

Yeah ... 800 bucks is a bit much ... Looking for maybe a double clicker or even something real basic . OEM in good shape .

I'm in the same boat with the same year bike, and I see where you're going. $800 for a brand new Ohlins is way too steep, especially for a street bike. I can purchase and rebuild/revalve an old GSXR double-clicker for ~$300.

I'm not a shock guru, but if we had the specs on the mount points (clevis and "the other end " ), the stroke length, and overall length. We'd be close enough to revalve/respring as needed.

Has anyone swapped out with other OEM shocks?

{edit}I'm checking with the local shop for recommendations/starting points/other info. I'll post-up anything substantive. {/edit}
{edit2}Lemme see if Traxxion Dynamics has an intern that needs a Thursday project {/edit}

I'd love to know the answer to this as well. My suspension is very tired but I am not in the position to spend $500 little on $800.

Max and the guys at Traxxion Dynamic are right up the road from me. I swapped my first-born child for a set of R6 forks back in the day, so maybe they'll remember me.

To: Traxxion Dynamics.
Hi guys, I'm looking for replacement shock options for a '97 Duc Monster 750. Ohlins has an $830 replacement. That's a third of the bike's value - not an option. Are there any OEM adjustable units from other mfgrs that will fit the DUC? I'd love to pay you guys to rebuild/revalve as needed. Maybe an old GSXR double-clicker, or similar unit?

Other monster owners may be interested in similar rebuild/revalve work if a suitable (cheaper) OEM replacement option can be found.

Thanks in advance for your advice and help.
