696/1100 LED Load Equalizers
Has anyone replaced the bulb-type turn signals with LED turn signals on a 696 or 1100? If so, what type of load equalizer or resistor did you use to correct the flash rate? I bought the Ducati turn LED turn signals for the 696/1100 and had the dealer install them. The flash rate is quite high and I wanted to get it back to DOT standard. Apparently, on the 1098 and some other Ducati models the flash rate is controlled through the bike's computer, but not so on the 696 or 1100. Dealer found out via Ducati tech rep that a resistor should be paired with each LED to correct the flash rate. Has anyone used some of the load equalizers (resistors) that are sold on the aftermarket? If so, what brand and how did they work? I've noticed that some require one equalizer/signal (4), while other require only one equalizer/side (2).

I just did LED upgrades on our 7-fiddy....and tried a couple different resistors.
The Rizomas were by far the best.
Just plug them in and they work, no splicing of messing around.
took just one pair for all 4 blinkers
(FYI-just ordered a whole bunch of them should arrive in a week or so if you need some)

Just buy a flasher can that's made for LEDs. You can buy them at most auto parts suppliers these days.
Using resistors to load down the indicator system, and hence get the flasher can to flash at the correct rate. The resistor method can be effective, particular years ago when the digitally timed flasher cans were really expensive. But these days, the proper flasher cans can be picked up very reasonably.

flashers work too as noted, but 02+ bikes, the flash is controlled by the ecu and there isnt a flasher box

I installed the DP led turn signals (front and rear) on my 696 when I first bought my bike. I used the inline resistors that came in the package. My bike acts funny though. The right turn signal blinks slow as it should. Left turn is weird. It'll blink slow for a bit and then will speed up and stay fast.
I'm too lazy to try to fix it as it technically still indicates.

I recently installed the DP LED indicators on my 696 myself. The instructions say match the same color wires when connecting the cables... however, when I attached the first LED (started with the front) and tested, it didn't work. I thought I had a faulty LED, so I tried the other one. That one didn't work either. SO, I thought to myself, they do everything backwards in Europe, so let me try switching the colors. I did, and they worked perfectly, with a normal blink rate. Remember, this is only the front 2 indicators that are now LED. The rear are still stock bulbs.
After getting the front LEDs sorted out, I left the rear ones for another day. When I finally got the rears installed, then the LEDs were now flashing faster than normal. So to recap, 2 front LEDs and 2 rear stock bulbs; normal speed blinking. All 4 LEDs, rapid fast blink.
What's the story here? Has anyone installed their own DP LEDs and had the same experience with the color coded cables? Was I supposed to install all 4 LEDs with the colors matching and then test? Is my fast blinking a result of my switching the cable colors? Will Obama's healthcare plan pass?
Thanks!

Mine is the first post in this thread. I had the dealer install all 4 of my LED's as I did not want to screw with anything electrical while under warranty. They never could get the flash rate normal. Actually, they will flash at the normal rate for approx 3 flashes then go to about a triple rate. The dealer actually ordered another set and tried installing the resistors from the new sets, but that did not remedy the fast flashing. I've now just quit worrying about it. When the bike's warranty expires (next Sept) I might try adding an additional pair of Rizoma resistors.

Mine does the same thing with the normal blink for a few seconds, then starts the rapid blink. It's like after a few normal blinks, the system thinks a bulb is out and tries to alert you with the fast blink.
wmhayes, maybe you can take a look with a flashlight in where the wires are and see if the wires from the led to the resistor/transistor/whatever match, or are reversed...
Anyone else? Anyone try installing themselves and have the same experience with the wire colors?
Send help!

I'm a genius...
You know what; I retract my statement. The lights blink fast, WHEN THE MOTOR IS OFF. When the motor is on, the lights blink at regular speed. Didn't notice until today (why would I turn the motor on to test my blinkers??). This is the first time I ride it since installing the lights though. Yeah, I'm a jackass, what can I say.
