Default 900ie won't start

I need some help... I can't figure this one out on my own.

I was out riding (leaving the AMA races at Road ATL) and as I got to the gate to leave the bike died. I tried a few things on the side of the road, but no luck, so called a tow truck to take the bike home. What happens is that the the bike begins to start (maybe fires two or three revolutions) then dies. I have tried the following:

- tried starting with open gas cap to make sure that vent line wasn't plugged
- verified that there is spark at both spark plugs
- fuel pump spins at key turn on and when engine turns (so rotation sensor appears to be working)
- verified belts and valve timing are correct
- verified compression in both cylinders
- verified no error codes from ECU

It appears that there isn't enough fuel delivery after the engine begins to start. I am at a loss...

I'm also really bummed because I just bought the bike last week and only got to ride if 50 miles before it broke! The bike only has 1300 miles on it.

Any suggestions?

I told you to get a Honda... ;-)

Just kidding. Hopefully someone will have some ideas. I think that your suspicion of the fuel pump might be accurate.

If it turns over, timing is correct, gets spark, has compression and is not making any other noises like something catastrophic happened inside the motor, fuel pump or ECU is the most likely culprit, IMHO.

Disconnect the fuel line and turn it over and see how the fuel flows? Does it shoot out, or dribble?

I hope that's not the best advice I never took!

I just got off the phone with NPR Ducati, and they think it is a split fuel line inside the tank. That would be an easy and cheap fix! (which would also mimic the bad fuel pump diagnosis)

Cool, I hope that fixes it. If so, where are we riding this weekend?

Cool. Allen, let me know if you need any help this weekend and I can ride over, and we can go riding afterwards. I want to ride that thing and I know you want to take the HyperRetard for a spin. :-)
