hi all ;

you can clone a black key using the other black key, it s ok...
but if you loose both of your black keys (in my case), unfortunately you re not able to clone a black one using the RED as a copying source, so you ll need to apply the procedure decribed above to program your new black keys
good luck.

We can clone the red key too.

*I'm in the lucky few. When I bought my 620, it came with a red and two blacks. Unfortunately, I dropped one of the blacks 2 weeks ago. I figured I should do some research. And, perhaps get an spare black key. You never know when crap is gonna happen.

Wow the same thing happened to me. My 02 duc monster came with two black keys and the red. I dropped the black key somewhere within the first couple days of buying the bike. Tonight I lost my black key at work. I have the red key at home, and now have to buy a blank key.

Is buying a blank key off an ebay store safe to do. I ebay all the time, and this guy's store has 100% feedback and has sold over 500 things. The picture of the key looked different from the cut of my key though. idk what to do

Sure, you can buy a key from ebay. Just make sure it is not a blank cloneable key. You need a key that already has a code written in the transponder if you want to add it to your bike with your red key. If you buy a blank cloneable key you cannot program it with the red key, it must be cloned with a tool. Does that make any sense?

if you loose both your black keys, you will need two balck keys to reprogram them using RED one. trying with one balck always fails,
the procedure is above...
a clonable key reproduced by RED key cloning is somehow dangerous, because the balck key becomes the RED one, and you may lock your engine accidentaly by playing the key and could not even understand why it is locked.. )
what i suggest you is to buy 2 empty black keys from your Ducati dealer and re program both using RED key on your monster.

Absolutely correct, you must buy 2 black keys and the originals would be the safest way to go. However, I have aftermarket ones that will work just fine.

From my knowledge and experience, you could use your red key to start your bike every day and it will not cause a problem. I'm always willing to answer questions if you call me too. Thanks
