How long do Ducati Monster engines last?

Last time I checked (about 10 years ago), most domestic automobile engines last about 100,000 miles before requiring a rebuild. I also heard that Porsche engines last about 300,000 miles.

So, how long do ducati engines last before requiring a complete engine rebuild? Does it depend on the model of the bike?

That's kinda like asking how long people live.

Look through the past featured monsters section. One of those guys is up to 121,xxx miles with no trouble.

Yes. However, we do know the *average* life span for humans.

They last as long as you are willing to take very good care of them. That is how long.

If you ride nicely they willl last longer.

That that is is.

Where's the fun in that?....just take good care of it and ride the hell out of it, It will last long enough for you to want a new bike.

warm it up, change the oil often, and service it on time. it will be around at least until you want a new one.

Re: How long do Ducati Monster engines last?

that is rather hard to answer actually considering that you only have a single life to live, but if your monster is starting to flag you either rebuild early or you go and get yourself a new one and sell it off to someone who is willing to do the work. Or it simply gets involved in an accident and is beyond repair.
Cars are different in that way: most people will drive them into the ground because they could sell them for more as parts perhaps and an improperly functioning car will not get you killed nearly as quickly as an improperly functioning motorcycle.

Re: How long do Ducati Monster engines last?

My engine has a "history" and died at 45.000 km. There's high wear on the valve train and the main bearings crashed. Damage (repaired) from a broken engine bolt and a cracked crankcase early in life may have contributed to the short lifespan. Infrequent oil changes didn't help either...

Re: How long do Ducati Monster engines last?

A friend of mine got 70,000 miles out of his 94 900ss. I could smell (but not see) a faint oil scent when riding down hill behind him and it still seemed to have plently of life left in it when he threw it away on Palomar Mtn.* *
